If you know the rules and know how to work the system, reserve can be pleasurable. I enjoy sitting at home playing the game. I get nailed a few times over the course of a year, but I can see it coming. My recommendation is to live in base if you can while bidding reserve. Commuting to this system sucks. (I might opt to do it too!)

I respectfully disagree. Our acronym laden system, (CROC.. RAW among others) has all the complexity of a William F. Buckley run on sentence, but half the logic and it.. well... it just sucks. Seniority is abrogated on a daily basis with days of availability, and I agree with those that don't like the fact that reserve pilots can be paid less for the same work as a regular line pilot flying the same trip. Only a witch doctor throwing bones on a pentagram makes less sense, and of that I'm not even sure. Why can't it be a simple process that everyone can understand and one that respects seniority? Sorry if it costs the company more... not our problem.

As far as reserve being pleasurable... I lost a whole bunch of respect for you with that sentence. Not really, but I can't believe you really feel that way. If it sucke to commute to the system.. the system sucks.

If we have plenty of pilots to cover the flying, I YS so at least I get to fly instead of getting passed up for the flying. During the Summer when we're way short on pilots, I'll be GS'ing the heck out of everything! :)

Good point, but since I figure I'm on salary for the winter I don't want to give anything away. If they need me on short notice, great but why not get a little coinage in return?

New thread idea: Contract 2012 Scrapbook Capsule.

We can just add to it for the next 3 years and then pull it out later and demand it. It ought to be like a suggestion box we can't read until 2012.

I'd like to start, reserve pilots on a greenslip shouldn't be paid 2.35 to do the same trip that the guy/gal next to them on their greenslip is getting paid 21.5 hours to do. Doesn't need to be fixed today, just 2012.

Lemon-aid out of Lemons buddy!

I agree that this system sucks in a major way. Almost every part of it needs to be fixed. My point was that I have found a way to make this crud work. It took some time but I have.

I totally agree that a reserve needs trip guarantee, and seniority needs to matter.24 hr international reserve call out is total crap now that we are going to combined categories it has to go!

We have a lot of work in front of us

And from today's email from LD:

"While I did think the concept of developing a list of questions for the candidates had merit, I chose not to participate for numerous reasons. Lack of opportunity for input from all of Council 44, legality concerns with respect to compliance with ALPA Constitution and By-Laws and other regulatory entities, and the hasty execution of the process were but a few. "

Slowplay, care to revisit your objection? :D

"chose not to participate" and "exclusion" are 2 very different things, if you didn't know....

Yep, nobody was excluded. Everyone made up their own minds. Each had their reasons. Whatever they might or continue to be.

Best of luck to the pilots of 44 on their choices for Status Reps.

Election closes on Tuesday so vote if you have not voted. If you know someone that has not voted, encourage them to vote. Be heard!

I kind of didn't think anyone was excluded.

acl65pilot 11-05-2009 05:58 PM

No one was. I think that point was made in his letter. It was not exclusion, but rather omission by choice.

It does seem a bit odd doesn't it.

This whole thing is just ridiculous. Nothing against LD, to the best of my knowledge there are not any legal concerns, if there are DALPA should state as much. Furthermore, if bylaws were broken, were the candidates provided this information so as to have the ability to comply with the bylaws?

I don't care if a little green man comes to ask the candidates questions, that doesn't make the questions any less relevant.
