You don't remember correctly. It was an auction of US Air Carrier slots to the highest bidder at the very low point of US airline economics. Foreign airlines were exempt.

How about we keep this discussion non-denominational...;) There's enough dirt to go around on both parties, and I'd hate to see this thread locked because the misrepresentations of one side were corrected!:p

I agree. A pox on both their houses. There is however, a fundamental difference in governing philosophies at play here.

And thanks for reminding and correcting me. :o

"Based on FAA slot holding data, incumbent carriers at DCA that would qualify under these limitations are AirTran and Spirit. At LGA, incumbent carriers that would qualify are AirTran, JetBlue, Southwest, and Spirit. In addition, of course, any U.S. or Canadian carrier not currently holding slot interests at the respective airports and otherwise meeting the criteria would be eligible under our proposal.
...
In order to achieve our goal of affording consumers the opportunity to realize new competitive services at LGA and DCA, we propose to place a 60-day time limit on US Airways' and Delta's sales of the slot interests. Should the carriers not succeed in selling those slot interests within the 60-day time period, we propose to withdraw them from Delta and US Airways and hold them in abeyance while we consider options for their future use."

I'm thinking if we were forced to divest slows to give them not only to Spirit but Allegiant. :D Just because that'd **** JB and SWA off. They gave us 3 options to sell them, I say we pick option 1 and go right to Spirit or another airline like Allgeiant and make a deal. My bet, the DOT would strike it down if it is not JB, AirTran or SWA.

Slow is right on this. And I am not a moderate center of the road guy. I drive happily on the right side and don't care if the left side wrecks. But Slow is right. You can say this is anti-Delta/UsAir because of a democrat administration and the likely supporters of this divestiture are major democrats but there are a lot of democrats who have thrown their support behind us as well. Also, the DOT is run by a republican, a rino, but a republican. If this is going to be reversed it'll take a bipartisan support and we can get that- we're so big we can go door to door on capitol hill and be all things to all people.

But we most certaintly have groups from both sides of the aisle for and against from what I can tell here:

Letters to DOT concerning the slot swap. Lots of Delta employees in there.

Where are the letters against it outside of the one here from Spirit? Or did I miss one, I went looking for one from SWA and JB and such. Maybe they had someone make a personal visit?
