Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
This deserves highlighting...
Too late! You got what you wanted. No idea how you think this is solvable. I had a full flight "recently" going to a hotspot in the northeast and we got our wheels up time as we taxied out then that turned into a ground stop with an update an hour later, then word the update was extended another hour and we came back and the flight was cancelled.
This is just the way its going to be.

It's like she built a website, and nobody came.. LMAO
So if I start a website and claim to be a customer abused by an evil corporation, an airline no less, I can be quoted in the USA Today?
Sweet.
now to think of how I can be offended....

Hm - I'm an airline Ops manager - what should I do when bad weather threatens? What did the people pushing the Pax bill of rights think would happen?
In a winter situation, this probably saves the company money. Say the flight was only going to make $500 total. (with the small margins in the airline biz, this is possible). Throw on some de-icing fluid at $4 a gallon - it doesn't take much to make a flight unprofitable.

I have serious doubts that consumer/citizen complaints drove the rulings that resulted in the fines for tarmac delays.
There were some airline execs who were in favor of putting all of the competition on a level playing field for canx flights in bad weather due to the companies costs and bad press. They wanted those fines, they needed those fines and I think they invented those fines! They played those passenger-rights folks like a fiddle.
I just joined her website so I could post something on her forum. Seems like she doesn't allow posting yet. Bummer. The law of unintended consequences has bitten her.
Point being, I can't go through life worrying about if I'll have a job next fall, next spring, or until I retire. It'll put my stomach in so many knots I won't be able to enjoy the job I have now, or my wonderful family. If I get furloughed I will find a way to support my family. I dont fear a furlough. I think the hardest part would not be the loss of income, but being stripped of the title. I know that sounds silly, but being an airline pilot is all I've known.
Bottom line, let's hope there is no double dip & we are all moving up soon.
I'm also not as pessimistic as you think. If we continue down this path unchecked then America is either finished or it's a revolution. I tend to think that there are enough smart people in this country to stand athwart the road and yell "STOP!" This web board affords us the opportunity to exchange ideas with people we might never come in contact with otherwise. It's a free form flow of ideas. Even Super sometimes stumbles into something intelligent!
If you like history at all, read Shlaes book. You will see where I'm coming from.

I flew with a 59 yr. old 320 Capt. this week who plans to retire at 60. I'm not sure why he didn't take the PERP. He's not even going to get the yellow fever shot. I guess it was worth it for him to stick around for an extra six months of pay. This is the exception rather than the rule, but I think some are realizing it's doesn't make sense to stick-around.

I suspect he's independently wealthy, if you look at the seniority list there are some senior 320As that could easily hold B744 Captain or A330 Captain. They aren't in it for the money. But most of the seniority list has to plan for retirement and has mortgage/bills to pay.
