Posted by Robert Herbst @ 12:50 PM Mon, May 03, 2010 Investor, I won't answer for Terry but I will clarify you cannot use the data above for any (credible# airline-to-airline comparisons. Here's why: The capacity/traffic #RPM's & ASM's) above are for mainline operations -except- DAL which is consolidated with their affiliates. The revenue/expenses includes mainline -and- affiliate inputs but the employee counts only include the parent company. In other words, a significant amount of revenue/expenses for some carriers comes from "contracted" regional affiliates/partners. In order to do analogous comparisons, you must reconcile the differences from mainline and regional capacity purchase agreements. Robert Herbst AirlineFinancials.com From Terry: Bob H. is right on. When I do my monthly traffic charts, I always back out the regional numbers, a particular issue with Delta. It was even more complicated when it reported Delta and Northwest separately but in the same release. Delta's mainline RPMs in 2009 were 163,706 million and mainline ASMs were 197,723 million. Delta also shows that $5.29 billion of its revenues came from regional carriers, but doesn't say what part of that came from carriers it doesn't own. In addition, under expenses Delta lists $3.82 billion in "contract carrier arrangements" and $1.60 billion for "contracted services." So statistical charts like this simply represent a best effort, and often do not include an apples-to-apples comparison. |

ACL,
Heard a rumor that an internal announcement will be out in a few days that we will hire 240 pilots at the end of summer due to the amount of metal coming from the desert. Anyone hear this? I was told it came straight from one of our program managers. Recall guys keep us posted if you get something in the mail!! |
Beer;
If there is an announcement it will be out shortly. I have a feeling they have made the decision and marketing has presented the 2011 block plan, so they can now move forward. Of note even if we hire today, those pilots will not make it to the line until fall. I believe that we will see new pilots here. I have a good idea on the number, but with everything it is a moving target. One or two variables could up or down that number. In 2007 they were saying they would hire indefinitely an we did not even have 700 before the doors were shuttered. My gut is telling me that the waters have a very stiff current underneath the surface. I bet a lot of questions will be answered by the Fall AE. |

I hope you use the fancy beer top poppers you buy in Japan.
P.S. If you have those and your friends see them, be prepared to buy them in bulk... I don't have any friends. Heck, the only reason my wife and I are still married is because we both hate everybody else!!:D (Present company on this thread excepted of course!!:D) Denny |

Handles like a 757 with two of the three hydraulic systems (come to think of it, it is a 757 with two of the three hydraulic systems) ;) |

So... slot swap rumors? Anything?
Just check keep staying informed. LLC has basically pulled out of the gates we are going to be getting. It is a ghost town over there at their terminal. La Hood will get around to mentioning it sooner or later. |

That 757 is the best plane God has ever allowed man to create. It should still be in current production. |
