Flying Saucer for great beer and good-looking waitresses, then on to dinner at AR or Neely's. Rendezvous' dry rub is just too dry for my tastes. I'll have to settle for a little Interstate at the airport this afternoon. Flying on Memorial day weekend because I was too stoopid to bid it off... My favorite BBQ is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. Neely's BBQ. It's just on the outskirts of downtown. Go to Jefferson Ave and hang a right. Just after you walk out of downtown under the highway, you will see it on the left... if I remember correctly, it's just past a police station. Not a bad walk during the day, but I wouldn't recommend it after the sun goes down. If you go to Neely's, I think the pulled pork is really good, and you gotta try their "Sock-it-to-me" cake for dessert. Love it! |

Any idea why? NW has been on a one year cycle for about ten years.
Delta has been on a 1 year cycle for at least 10 years also with he exception of international pilots who come back at 6 months for a non jeopardy sim to reset currancy clocks and run through problem areas. I think the FAA's concern is the huge area of operations Delta now covers. 767ER pilots are now flying every region in the world and expected to be current in all. The new Delta is not the old NW. There is no comparison between the two airlines so it really does no good to keep trotting out the it was not this way at NW line. The two combine airlines are quite different from the two individual airlines and require different solutions to problems. |
According to the Tovani letter, it sounds to me like you only get an LOE once every 18 months with the intervening 9 month check being only an MV and some training. As for the quarterly CQ, apparently it will be about 2 hours of training 4 times per year versus one 8 hour block per year. Overall, the changes seem like a good thing IMO.

Just be prepared to have 3 people min give you a sob story about how they lost it all and are just looking for $6 to stay at the missionary down the street. I'm going to start carrying McDonalds apps and a pen. They have to pay at least $7 an hour so there ya go. |
Which MEM BBQ place is over by Graceland, in the ghetto, 'cause if there's one thing that she don't need it's another hungry mouth to feed, and they come and pick you up from your hotel in a pink herse? I thought it was really good. Previous life they used to overnight us at a hotel in the industrial park near the airport and that pink caddy death wagon ride was the difference between starving to death and eating like a fatso.

No problem here. I just spent too many years on the 9 and 320 listening to the spats between the red/green guys. A lot of Bar's post have the same "woe is me" attitude of the red/green book guys. I just do not won't to hear the same crap for the next 25 years, Bar as long as you have a hobby... In reality this industry has sucked for the past decade and we are going to have to get past any north south animosity to get some restoration in 2012. |
New CQ
We're going to the new CQ to keep everyone current on all of the different int'l theatre's. AQP is an airline specific training thing. Each airline defines what they wish to do and training is 12 months apart and can be extended in 3 month increments to 39 months. Standard 121 training is every 12 months (Capts get a checkride every 6) unless they have a CRM program with LOFT and then they can extend to 12 months.
Delta is going to the new footprint in order to add additional LOFTs for each theatre. It doesn't really save them much money in terms of training but ensures that all of the int'l pilots are always theatre qualified if they were to get called out or WS. |
