I'll be more impressed when I can pick up my iPhone and plug it into USB and drag and drop files onto it like I could do with my ancient iPod mini (6 years ago). Or sync the phone over WiFi or Bluetooth (something I could do with my decrepit Palm 515).

So let me get this straight....the only way I CAN put files on my iPhone is through a ridiculous workaround (wifi), but you won't let me drag and drop over USB. But you won't let me sync the phone in any other way THAN USB:confused:?

Apple's insistance of a closed file system, and a rule of no data conduits has crippled apps from being truly effective.

The core of Windows 7 is MsDOS. The core of many of Oracle's enterprise products is Oracle's database language. Same with Apple. Who cares how old the core is? It's all about usability and productivity.

I am in Boston on a layover. I just heard on the radio CNET's 5 review??? (Never heard it before)

However, it was the Top 5 reasons why you probably shouldn't by the new iPhone4. "Yeah, God might carry one, but you can skip the iPhone4" :)

1. No 4G. Despite it's name, it only used the slower 3G networks.
2. No longer unlimited data. If you change carriers, you're going to pay.
3. No Verizon, still. Even CNET says, AT&T sucks.
4. Cancellation fines increased to $325.
5. The new phone doesn't change the playing field or save the world. Apple over hyped this phone. Many of these upgrades are playing catchup with the competition.

A guy with obviously a huge amount of knowledge of the inner workings of this place makes statements and you call them opinions. You make a statement about such areas as IT (which I'm sure you are quite the expert) and it's to be taken as fact. Amazing.

Quick question. Once you get your manuals for new equipment, how do you keep them current until you convert? I have a stack of MD-88 stuff sitting in my house but don't go to training until December. Is there a way to sign up to get revisions?

Carl is correct. While the "front end" of Access was very simple, the back end was VERY sophisticated.

One software module was capable of dynamically scheduling the entire airline on the fly, day to day, matching aircraft and crews to passenger loads WHILE respecting the aircraft's MX needs.

Got empty seats on the 757? Put a 320 on it. Need more seats on that DC-9-30 run? Throw a -50 on it. Extremely powerful.

The end state of this would be to have crews simply bid 1,2,3,4,5, etc trips, and start and end times. Everything else would be on-the-fly. Obviously this had a lot of PWA and marketing implications, which were never solved, but the system WAS capable of this.

But what DID come out of were some of the dynamic rescheduling tools that could literally bootstrap the airline from a standstill IROP, including aircraft and crew scheduling. Something along the lines of an ice storm, or other WX event didn't even make it's electons sweat.

Combined with the automation that the schedulers had at their disposal (automatic crew contact via voice/text/email), and it made things run pretty smooth. I didn't actually talk to a crew scheduler for years until BP5.

I hope you're right Scoop, I really do. I'm cautioning everyone about their enthusiasm based on a resume. This individual has a recent record. I hope he is more effective in this role, than he was previously.

I'm not bemoaning another south guy getting a management job. I am bemoaning our really talented and proven guys from fNWA being forced out. It's very difficult to believe that none of our guys were good enough to be kept on or promoted. If the roles were reversed, you couldn't help but notice.
