I guess they are leading by example with the state of the art systems they use

What are the chances we are Skyteam by Delta Air Lines by 2020?

90%

It wasn't doing what it was supposed to do as far as forwarding calls to the next scheduler if yours was busy on another line

There are three major problems with long crew scheduling wait times.

First, many pilots are bypassing the VRU and calling schedulers direct lines. The direct line numbers have (had) no "rollover" capability. You could call an empty desk, the answering system would pick up and you'd be placed on permanent hold. Using the VRU you will be rolled to the next available desk.

Second, many experienced crew schedulers chose not to make the transition to Atlanta. The current scheduling crew has some relative inexperience in its ranks.

Third, call times have gone up substantially. This is both a cultural (fNWA calls were substantially longer than fdal calls) and knowledge difference. Inexperienced schedulers, pilots operating under new scheduling rules, and the difference in how schedulers and pilots interact have all contributed to longer actual call times.

They should of thought of that before gave out the direct numbers then. Also, I've never been on permanent hold, just waited a long time for a scheduler.

I think the rolling over to the other desks isn't that helpful - each time that has happened, I start explaining what I need to the scheduler, and he says, "oh, I'm the M88 desk, let me send you to the 7ER guy". I guess someone is answering the phone faster, but not much use if he can't help me.

Which system was state of the art, pentry, access, pars? Our systems were very old at the core of the system. There were some nice new interfaces for the gate agents and Atlas but the core system was still ancient.

Well. I got my iPhone 4 yesterday and so far I'm impressed & happy. Some things I noticed:

Web browsing is much faster

Deltanet & icrew load up much faster, & browsing through them takes very little time.

While in travelnet you can now view the standby list by clicking on the icon!

The screen has better clarity. Many more pixels so a much better screen overall.

Used the FaceTime feature for a video call last night. That is a very cool feature, especially if you have kids. :)

That's just some of my observations. Overall I'm very pleased.

Darn, you are going to make me go buy one aren't you. I wasn't planning on upgrading but now that you like it I'm going to start thinking. Curses!
