Gotta run now folks, but please consider this: Resumes mean diddly. One of the best resumes to ever run an airline was from an astronaut named Frank Borman. He walked on the moon, then destroyed Eastern Airlines.
Results are what matters. Only results. BW's recent results were awful. Let's hope he learned something from those bad decisions. Carl |

I would have accepted a 6 month delay in SOC to keep from being the worst US airline with regard to customer complaints. Not having an SOC didn't cause us to lose money, poor revenue did. Post SOC, we're still losing money. This quarter may be profitable. If so, it will be because of strong revenue as stated by RA.
Carl Btw, got a new VOL 1 today. The whole thing was new. No idea whats in it, just went and flew. So things are changing and thats why I really do not see any evidence things are being ignored but rather prioritized. You're willing to give up SOC for 6 months, I understand that, but I'm willing to get SOC and give up 2010 to fix it on the fly rather than delay SOC (and AE's and aircraft reposiitions) and still be dealing with implementation issues afterwards anyways. Either way, 2010 was a year of change where our profitability comes from being one airline and not two. But thats just how I see it. |

Ugh,
Okay since I reignited this food fight with three little words, I'll add some "stuff" I heard about scheduling and aircrew IT. Scheduling staff shortages - I was told that right up until the last weeks before all pilots transitioned to the fDL system, some of the fNW schedulers said they were accepting new positions in ATL. Then at the last minute most of them changed their mind and bailed forcing DL to bascially hire pilot schedulers "off the street." I have no way of verifying this, but it was an ALPA source. This is not an attempt to defend the fDL ppl in charge of transition, it is merely what I was told. Aircrew IT (and I'll throw in PARS/Worldflight) - Without rehashing the whole $AP issue, Worldflight was for the most part superior to FPS/AWABS/whatever the other modules are called. There are a few things in FPS that I like better, but not many. I think most people would no argue this point if it were not for the $AP gorilla. The crew scheduling, however, is a different story. Do I think the fNW system was better, definitely from a pilot and scheduler standpoint. Did it have the capability of working for a group as large as the two combined airlines? I was told NO, it did not and that in fact it was getting close to being maxxed out at fNW. I was NOT told if this was due to a lack of mainframe capacity or if it was a software issue. Again, I didn't work in IT so I could NOT verify this claim. Since I mentioned Worldflight, I actually found a copy of a fNW flight plan to post next to a FPS flight plan. Somehow those pages from the Jan 2010 FOM revision magically stayed in my FOM rather than being discarded as directed. Now I have to find a website to post excerpts from the two releases and flight plans side-by-side. FWIW there are a few things from FPS that I like, but I wish they would reformat the output from FPS into the Worldflight format. The poor dispatchers are on their own as I see no help for them in sight. I fear they will all be bald by the end of the first snowstorm in Japan. P.S. My comments about Operation Visine have nothing to do with the quality of the person picked to replace GB. It rather refers to the apparent attrition of the fNW culture/personnel from the Chain of Command in Flight Operations. |
btw, speaking of change, even on the line things are starting to get blended. What happens when blue mixes with red, according to google- purple. But I had a crew take my plane from me today at a major outstation and it was a DALN crew taking the 88 out to MEM- a definate new route combo for an 88. I was talking to the Captain and I realized, you're using terms I've never heard. The word Airbus doesn't flow off a DALS pilots mouth, you called it a minibus, conext clues - A319? So for a moment the thought came to mind to say, just to make sure you know thats an 88, but I knew better because things are getting kind of purple and will continue to get purple.
To the DTW pilots today, thanks for showing me around the place. :D I still wish I could meet NewK, Carl and Ferd in person. |

Ignoring the juiciness of most of this to focus on the bold words, I have to disagree. Seems like there is plenty of tips from USAF guys on here. :D
I'm laughing, am I the only one? You tip for services rendered. Maybe swabos don't have a high enough expectation of those services. Just a keyboard warrior - me. You talk big GI. |

http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/a...id/temp-20.jpg Thats where my Coex buddy took me my first time in the city. Quite an introduction. Bar in Elisabeth, Newark Penn, Penn St, Empire St. Building, Central Park, Times Square, the Village?, and topped off at Hogs and Heffers and a cab back to Newark Penn at 3am. Scheduling called at 7. I kid you not-luckily I drink cokes. I got dressed, went to the airport but called and said "you know, I don't go on call til 10, so I don't think its right you call me at 7." They agreed and sent me back and I slept for 3 days. Just noticed Carl left, why? You missed the after 12 pic show? |

Look man, you have to learn to be more discerning when you hear stuff. You have indeed correctly stated the talking points at that time, but it is absolute BS. The FAA is always pleased to see the adoption of state of the art systems. Despite what you hear, the FAA is mostly very forward thinking. It was DAL that decided they didn't want to make a change because they wanted to train the fewest number of people. In the case of crew scheduling, many are gone and replaced with new people. New people that had to be trained. And most ironicly, trained in last century's technology.
Again - Nobody forced Delta to do this...nobody! Certainly not the FAA. It was Delta's choice. And I believe our current difficulties show what a poor choice that was. Carl |

I should've said meeting Newk, Carl and Ferd out of DTW. What if there was a perfect storm and all 3 were in NYC's downtown overnight? Dare I say, Hogs and Heffers?
My goal in life is to have 1 in every Irish Pub in Manhattan......think I'll make it? |
