BAH! Just reach up to the Air Conditioning Auto Shutoff Switch and flip to Override(or is is Auto?). Whatever position you normally have it in airborne. Then packy no turn offie.

Or, if it's that heavy, you could just start both engines.

There is a point where trying to SE taxi can be unsafe. Turning off essential systems to trick or by-pass the system is that point, for me.

I guess what I'm saying is that maybe we shouldn't be so gun-ho to be SE taxing in in every situation. You could cost the company more money than any amount of fuel you are trying to save.

(It's not a joke and I wish I could have found an image that didn't have "FAIL" on it. But, you get my point.)

But hey, I heard that this is a captains airline. So, you guys do what you want. I'll be rolling abound with two running in those situations where it's too heavy or too hot to SE taxi, even if it's close.

New K Now (Won't be pushing the envelope to SE taxi. But, I'll by the drinks to help you in your loss in profit sharing.) :D

Could someone from the class please post how the new hire award went down and who got what. Were the held back flow pilots awarded positions or will they bid up the upcoming Sept AE?

Again, control what you can. I can't control what type of flight planning software that DAL uses that forces us to carry additional gas. I can't control the hiring of rampers or the supervision of rampers that would make it a more efficient operation. There are many cost effective initiatives I can't control.

What I can control is when I start or shutdown that second engine. That's my little piece of the picture. And seeing that around 10% of the A320 flights taxi out SE, that's a big enough challenge for me. cool face applied

Spot on, reddog!

The other area I see where we can control our fuel burn is in the way we fly our approaches. Way too many guys fail to use proper energy management and they configure too early. This wastes a bunch of fuel!

If I heard correctly, the situation that happened in that picture happened because someone was SE taxiing in a situation where it was inappropriate (INOP system) to taxi SE. You do have to use good judgement, common sense, and comply with the restrictions for SE taxi. But I've been doing it for almost 20 years and it really is not the trap that some guys think it is. Come on in, NewK, the water's fine! ;)

It also ****es off the passengers and the employee's. Our leading industry non-rev benefits are practically worthless because the flights are all full anyway.

Do DAL pilots have non-rev priority over DCI employees?

It isn't a procedure at all. Certainly good use of systems knowledge....;)

All of that pales in comparison to the money spent buying off people when we are oversold.

Delta is always #1 by far in DOT overbooking and denied boarding.

They must make money doing it because they don't seem to care.

Don't we soak up DOT fines for our amount of over booking too? Or is that a wives tale?

On DAL airplanes.

Yes. I think those guys lost a hydraulic system airborne, then shut down the other engine once they landed. To me, this is a perfect example of being so accustomed to "shutting it down" that you miss the big picture. Safety first. If I have to shut down the ac auto shutoff system to taxi, for me (and just for me) that's not safe. If I had a Fed in the jumpseat, I wouldn't do it, so I won't get in the habit of doing it when one is not there.

I do have a SE taxi plan though 88, but right now the water is too hot. Every time I fly, it's a billion degrees outside and I look at my FO sideways if he shuts down the APU before we take the runway. It's not like I never do it, but regular SE taxing for me will have to wait until I can get some cooler days to fly. :D

You're gonna love the Palace.

ARRGGGHHH!!!! Rum is my favorite. :(

Haha, JK. I think I'll find something to enjoy. Very much looking forward to the Riu Palace. I ponied up for the double sweet. Super cheap for what we are getting. :)
