From one of our chief line check guy, we're negotiating EVERY single MD90 out there... I hope we seriously look at 717 as well (Technically advanced as the 777, but a nice replacement for DC9)

This sounds like an "I told you so...", and I don't mean it in a rub it in anybody's face. About 6-8 weeks ago, I posted that a very good friend of mine--Marine 320 pilot, on LTS, but soon to come back--indicated that a senior DAL mechanic he helps out wrenching a G/A aircraft with, went over there to inspect a BUNCH of airplanes that are (were) currently going through 'C' checks. And, that barring any significant issues, they were going to be ours. But that's all I've heard about it. At this point, looks to be for ramp-up ops of summer 2011. Great news if this actually comes to fruition.

Chuck that is good, because with more airplanes comes the need for more bodies. I just cannot wait to see what the yoy bump in summer 2011 block hrs is going to be. Based on that we will see if we need more bodies for next summer.

Getting more 90s is great! But can we now get someone to finally try to get 90 pay for all 88 guys? When you fly a 75 you get 76 pay. When you fly a 737-700 you get -800 pay. When you fly an A319, you get A320 pay. So why when I fly an 88, do I not get 90 pay? It's the same category, even more so now that all 88 bases will be 90 trained. Here's an idea, next time the company wants a side letter, we say "sure.....just sign this first"!

Well, Ponch, what are you willing to give up in order to get the pay the same. You need to be careful in what you ask for, because it could come back to bite you in the form of all pay in the MD88 & 90 being current 88 pay... sorry, couldn't resist.

Won't need more bodies oif they merely replace DC-9-30s

I think the staffing and AEs have already accounted for the DC9-30s to leave the fleet - I think they go in a month or two. The DC9-40s are sticking around a bit longer than they planned, word seems to be they'll go this winter or springtime. The -50s are staying.

So these MD-90s would be growth airplanes.

Yes really. Our upper management is moving like a small company in my opinion. Very light and nimble. Doing deals such as JFK terminals and debt buydowns, and attempting things like the slot swap. Very fast stuff and I know our competitors must be feeling a little off balance - a very good thing.

Our flight ops management is a different story. Far too slow to perform even minor changes - in my opinion. I think they need to mirror the speed of execution shown by upper corporate management. It would be good for all of us.

I don't care if you think that opinion is rookie.
