I thought the beacon came on as soon as the door closes (numbers or not). That's what all the CA's tell me anyway!:p

Not in my cockpit. I don't get paid enough to willfully violate company policy for THEIR convenience. I get paid by the minute. They want me to stop to put the numbers in, I'll stop, regardless of where I might be or how long it takes to get 'er done.

The first time someone has a runway incursion, or nicks a wingtip on something, if you think DAL will give the WINK, WINK because you were inputing FMS data on the roll, you're kidding yourself.

Couldn't have said it finer myself!

I am laughing at the APC L and G role reversal caused by pushing without numbers.

Since this subject is all IMO I'll toss a few in

IMO this came from the top of the food chain because of our crappy on time performance. It should surprise no one, because we were also doing speed ups enroute rather than Econ cruise. That is an indication to me that On Time is going to be trumping Save Gas for the near future. Maybe that will change after the kinks get worked out as we move to the old fNW procedure. Guaranteed to be kinks anytime you move that many pilots from one procedure to something completely different (insert best John Cleese impression here). Remember that the top of the food chain saw this procedure work extremely well at a previous company.

Numbers while moving - happened all the time in a previous life. On certain airplanes the capability is there to automatically uplink the TO data straight into FMS, requiring verification, but no finger punching. THink how nice it would be to have both Flight Plan and performance data uplinked automagically into the FMS/MCDU. Maybe we can get them to reactivate the ACARS logging of TO and LDGs too... Can't speak for DC-9 guys, I don't know how to use an abacus.

I tell guys that IT is in the middle of a three year upgrade process and that by the end of the upgrade IMO our Flt Ops procedures will be a lot closer to fNW than to fDL. I started the IT upgrade clock in Jan 2010 so my target window is Jan 2013. We will see if that holds up as a good prediction.

Biz Class seating - If you are going to call yourself a premier airline, then you are competing with Singapore. Nuff said.

Pay for enroute divert - I think iceman asked this question because fNW you were paid for the entire time you were on the ground at your divert station if passengers were NOT offered a chance to deplane into the terminal. Kinda made sense, we were responsible for them from push until they deplaned, we got paid that way.

Spygate - No more PMs going out until I see the contents of the Council 1 minutes and Company announcement. Sorry, I don't want to get in trouble with e-mails. I'd like to see stuff in writing and if there is any "obfuscation."

I've read a lot on the subject of a premium economy class. Many airlines including NZ, BA and VS have claimed that premium economy is the cabin that generates the highest revenue per sq ft of floorspace. This is likely because its the cabin with the highest load factor.

Not on the 9, out time is still on brake release after the door is closed. Not sure if they are going to spend the money to modify those airplanes as they won't be here that long.....

so i had a Captain who had his own procedure, knowing this was coming, and that was to push thrn get the numbers. Suggested not to but he is the Captain. So we push. No numbers. Called. No numbers. Called. No numbers. Called. You're overweight, we've got to unload 40 of 80 bags from previojs nights cxld flight.

That said, the current system is not working in many instances and Im fine with new procedures but I'm also concerned the numbers will take a long time still.

Contractually no. I say change it.

Nosmo;
Good synopsis. I agree no reason to stir the pot on "Spygate."

It does need to be addressed, but, until it's fixed, we can keep them honest by being vigilant.

Consider an FCR and a word with the CP.
