Did anyone take notes at SDs deal in NRT? I was there but with free beer and food I forgot to remember to take notes ;) No, actually we got back from Saipan at the very end of the event. Big deal and it appears to have gone over well.

No, they aren't being MD'd. There is a surplus of pilots in the SLC 767 category because it's being eliminated.
That's wrong. You got some bad gouge. They most definitely ARE being mandatory displaced. Give me a minute. Let me find a contract reference. |

No. No. No. !!! Mass confusion !! Standby. Searching..... |

Whoa. Be careful. I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. New categories are filled in seniority order whether its an AE, VD or MD. Any of those will work. The SLC767 guys definitely want to use the MD. To avoid an AE freeze. Because SLC7er is a new category no one can be MD/VD'd to the category because there is no one in the category that is senior or junior to one wanting to displace into the category. In other words, you cannot displace into a category that has no one in it yet. Once the category is opened then you can VD/MD. Think the SEA7er category on the last bid. No one got it as a MD/VD because it was a new category. You had to bid it as an AE. Denny |

OK. Here we go.
From the TWG Advanced Entitlement document: New Categories Eight new categories (DTW 777 A/B, MSP M88 A/B, NYC 765 A/B, and SLC 320 A/B) are opening. The posted vacancies in these categories will be awarded under Section 22 E.1. which states: The following vacancies will be awarded simultaneously and in seniority order among pilots whose standing bid, in DBMS at the closing date and time, contains a preference for the category(ies) involved: a. AE, b. VD, c. contingent vacancies, and d. other vacancies that: 1) first became known during the period of the posting of the vacancy notice, and (AE, VD or MD).2) are caused by termination, resignation, or an absence whose anticipated duration is greater than 120 days. Exception: A standing bid preference for an AE will not be awarded if such award, together with any VD/MD(s) for the same category, would create a surplus that would cause a displacement in the category. While these categories can be bid and may be awarded via an AE, VD or MD bid, the exception will not be applicable in this case. This is because these are new categories with no pilots currently assigned and therefore, no surplus could be created which would trigger the exception above. In short, awards to a new category will be filled in seniority order regardless of the award type Since these are new categories, pilots who currently hold a category freeze are not restricted from bidding into these new categories, regardless of any remaining freeze (see Section 22 8.A.). While an existing freeze won’t carry over if awarded one of these new categories, any pilot who requires initial qualification or transition training due to an AE or VD award to a new category will incur a category freeze based on that award. Update Your Mandatory Displacement (MD) Bid Preferences Along with the vacancies posted in this bid, four categories are being closed (NYC 777 A/B and SLC M88 A/B). If you are in one of these categories it is vital that you submit an MD bid if you desire to take advantage of your contractual rights under Section 22 F.13. There is no need to submit other than an MD bid under these circumstances. In addition, the posted displacements will create contingent displacements. Just because there are no displacements posted in your particular category does not mean you are immune to being displaced. We strongly recommend that you update your MD bid preferences. Sorry about the goofy font and formatting. Its from a PDF file on the DALPA website. |
The way your are displaced either by VD or MD is if your position is eliminated AND you do not bid an AE. You will then be displaced. If you bid an AE and get it you are not displaced even if your category was going to be eliminated.
My point is that, if any SLC767 domestic want to move to SLC7er, they NEED to bid it as an AE. Again, think SEA7er on the last bid. ALPA even said anyone who wanted SEA7er needed to bid it as an AE because you cannot displace into a brand spankin' new category. Denny |

MD's always trump AEs IOW on this bid in SLC/ER the AE establishes the initial seniority of the category. Then the MD starts flicking folks off the bottom as the MDs shuffle into where their seniority can hold. In the case of SLC/ER, if you cant hold the category on its initial AE, you cant hold it on the MD either - both just happen to occur on the same bid. |
