For the record, FDX requires pilots who do not take a scheduled DH to check in twice via computer or phone for trips that start with a DH before a operational leg. The first time is within 48 hours of their scheduled show time (for the DH as scheduled), the second time is after arriving on station and confirming they are within 100 miles of said location. They must do the final check in within 8 hours of show time for a domestic flight or 12 hours if the operating flying is international.
If you commute into your base to operate a trip originating from such you only need to check in at show time, like a local bubba.
There is more, but it relates to online commuting into a same duty flight and stuff about being in position to rest before operating long flight segments.

You guys think way too much.

Occam's razor.

The company will simply require you to check in on a company owned computer in your base xx hours prior to your departure. It won't cost them anything because it will be based on a new Federal rest requirement.

One could also argue that a new regulation like this could make it easier to implement a better Call in Honest Policy to avoid having to increase reserve staffing.

Don't count your chickens...

Even some CPs commute.

What about the FA me too clause? Maybe they should be forced to live in base too. They need to be rested to perform emergency duties.
It's time to get some "me too" from our FA about satellite basing, aka "Alternate Flying Program". I know for us it'a lot more complex, but we gotta start someplace.

dude, you can't drop something like that on the board without at least attempting to explain it.

SWA also let's pilots trade partial rotations. So my buds that live out of base just drop a leg or two on the front/back and try to fly trips that start/end at home(non-domicile). Someone else wants those leg/legs to get paid to get home somewhere else.

Scheds can break up rotations ......why can't we?

As I said, an uninterrupted chain of events. There are also several other human factors on the Captain side that I believe play a huge role in this accident.
