True, but if you bid long call you were first to fly. If you were trying not to fly you wouldn't bid long call. Smart bidding of days off strings and certain RAP times were much more effective to get extra days at home, however it was only a benefit for non-commuters. The commuters usually wanted to fly if on a RAP. Bottom line...commuting to reserve sucks either way.

edit: oops see in your post that a pilot could bid long call. I didnt' know NWA had that.
I was mid-pack on reserve and seldom had shortcall. the senior or junior guys living in base would preference shortcall as they were last to fly. in fact, I can count on one hand the number of times I actually flew on a shortcall. the other advantage was the ability of schedulers to look ahead more than a day. on more than one occasion, I was called very early on a day off (due to time zones), told not to commute out, enjoy 24 hours of rest and then fly a particular trip. that actually happened more times than I flew on shortcall. I have tried to orchestrate such things here to only be cutoff and told that they only look one day in advance....

lastly, are you familiar with AAs reserve system?

agreed, can't hold a line anywhere except for NYC and that will never happen. but this current system makes commuting to reserve the worst experience yet bc of the aforementioned reasons. ALPA fix this s___!

if you were lucky enough to get one of those late RAPs you were essentially off for the day and not legal for the am pushes the following day.

lastly, the old contract had a ratio of shortcalls to longcalls, they couldn't arbitrarily place the entire pool into shortcalls as I have seen them
do here.

it's really too bad there was such a hurry in putting this last contract together, we all couldve benefited from some more drawn out strategy of renegotiating scope, DC, pay and work rules.

True but for a commuter you needed longcall or you were stuck in base for however many days you were on for. That's sucks for commuters! So sure you were first to fly but at least you werent sitting in a crashpad the whole time. That's where the current system is better, with that said it can always be made better.

I agree 100% that reserve sucks either way though

I'm getting a pop up on Deltanet that tells me I have to complete LMS CQ training prior to Nov 30th. I have tried to access it at home with my Mac and have had no success. Does anyone know if this is a windows program only? Thanks

Had an AA guy in my crashpad... From what I remember they got a RAP period, AM or PM everyday. Pretty much short call everyday. Could be wrong but that is what I remember.

Download the Firefox browser, works well with the fNWA stuff, even DAL stuff for that matter. I deleted all the old bulletins I had regarding, but the IT department was committed to supporting Apple.

The guys I know from AA deplore their SC and reserve system in general.
