Default More training to prevent accidents

I totally disagree. First of all, there is a breadth and depth of knowledge to operate an airplane. With the glass cockpits, we don't need to know how any automatic system operates. There are so many hybrid systems that within a 5 year time frame of manufacturing, the differences within the same system are totally different (eg. electrical system on the 757/767). There is also a cost to teaching these systems. If you bring in mechanics to teach systems, you'll end up with knowledge way too deep and way too broad. We don't need 6 week systems training. Additionally there is an acceptable level of risk in the operation. The FAA defines it at 10 to the minus 8 which means any error that occurs at that level is acceptable (UAL 232-Iowa City comes to mind).

As a pilot I don't like that reasoning but if you want a zero accident rate then don't fly the planes. We run over a ramper once every 5 years and that's before the plane even flies. By far the largest cause of accidents is flying. Robert Sumwalt and NTSB says the two primary reasons is: failure of the crew to manage disruptions and distractions and failure of the monitoring pilot to ACTIVELY monitor the PM.

I think your concern would be better placed in the new grading scheme used in 2011. For the first time, your CRM will be graded and you can Fail for CRM even if you do the maneuver correctly.

newbie line holder here. If Im looking to swap a trip that I have but there are no trips in open time for that date and I put in a white slip wild card. Does the standing trip preferences that you can put in apply to the wild card as well. Or is the wild card white slip just that. You never know what your gonna get.

Maddogin;
Check the swap pot. There many be another pilot that will swap with you. If you are willing to drop the trip, and then take your chances with what opens up for a WS, put it in the swap pot as a P/U only and not a SWAP.

Sounds like what you are thinking about is called a blind swap with the pot. If you go to PCS and swap with the pot you can request specific trips on specific dates and if the trip becomes available you will more than likely get it.

There are different PCS templates for swap with the pot and white slip. You can be very specific (down to the trip number and date) or very general (any trip at any time) on a white slip or swap with the pot.

I hate the way the Left wing media throws around the word Nazi...but I think it is spot on in regards to the TSA.

I believe the profit sharing check is based on your year end DAL W-2 for 2010.

I think the short answer is yes. I believe it is based on "deemed" earnings for the year in which the profit was made.

I had a fun morning today. I thought I was on a * day and so I had gone out of town last night. Scheduling called all my numbers trying to reach me at 5am this morning. They were wondering why I had not acknowledged my short call assignment. Oops. Good times. Thank God I didn't go partying last night. I'm sure they would not have been happy to hear me say that I couldn't accept the assignment. Lesson learned.
