Please tell me why this can't happen here. Only 3% of the population have a significant 401k. When 97% of the country doesn't have enough money to retire, there would be zero political pressure to stop this move. Two Senators, one from Iowa and one from out east have already proposed this here. Our money would be used to shore up the public pensions.
I disagree that the 2010 election was about stopping this type of takeover. It was about a majority wanting the government to stop spending on other peoples projects, not their own pet projects. For example, look at the amount of people on various forums calling for government takeover of the airline industry..ie re-regulation.

A flight of five DC-9-40's went on their last flight yesterday, three from DTW and two from MSP, to the scrapper down in Florida. Pulling out of the gate it was taking a little bit to get some final paperwork, ramp was wondering how much longer it would be there was a compass 175 waiting for the gate.
Speaking of....
Bombardier says SkyWest orders 4 jets
NEW YORK (AP) -- Bombardier Inc. said Tuesday that SkyWest Inc., which operates regional flights for Delta Air Lines Inc., has placed an order for four CRJ700 NextGen airliners.
The order is valued at about $148 million at list prices, although discounts are common.
The aircraft will be flown by SkyWest Airlines under the Delta Connection banner.
SkyWest Airlines and its sister airline, Atlantic Southeast Airlines, currently operate 406 CRJ200, CRJ700 and CRJ900 regional jets.
Including this announcement, Bombardier has taken firm orders around the world for 1,713 CRJ Series aircraft as of Oct. 31.
SkyWest is based in St. George, Utah. Bombardier is based in Quebec.

Maybe some of the reasons why scope was not included in the new chairman's letter.

Well... so since YOU don't want to talk about it, I guess he should go cower in fear. He should be ashamed for bringing it up. Who do you think you are anyway? Why don't YOU go away and take your national koolaid with you? I'm sick of hearing about how great national is...
So...where would M88 surplus folks go?...Most of those would be ultra junior already and with the 9 going away will they just go to the bottom of another list?
ACL does it look like there may be some upward movement this time with all the rumors of more 75/76 and 74's coming out of mothball?

What they stated in the crew room fire side chats about a month ago was:
More WB seats.
-744
-7ER
-maybe a few on the 765 and 777 but not for sure.
Surplus on the m88. They may opt to not surplus and just let guys bid up. Who knows, and whatever the plan is today, it will change prior to the bid being published.
Johnso, a VD to the same seat in a different base. (Category) does not involve a two year seat lot, but a VD to another fleet does. A VD will also take your vacation away and necessitate a need to rebid the remaining weeks that are available in your new seat once you convert.
I would not be shocked to see the CVG 73N move to DTW in a future bid. There is a ton of 73N time being flow out of DTW. (320 time out of NYC too)
WRT to 7ER's in MSP. My personal guess is that if they close the 330 base there they will need to add more ER's to lessen the ripple effect across the system.
As the per merger numbers indicated, of the 1400 pilots based in MSP 1000 lived in domicile.

"Why are the majority of pilots in a domestic category assigned short call from 03:00 to 06:00, when most of the trips that need covered daily happen at around 17:30?"
Answer: "To maximize your availability"
Result: Crew timed out, green slips, and occasionally a fatigue call. Short call not utilized.

I could see a surplus bid on the 88, I could also see them letting attrition take pilots out of the category and shrinking accordingly.
If you look in January you'll see as many as 55-60 pilots on reserve per day but keep in mind that is January. I bid to reserve, well in most months I 'bid' down, and typically I fly 6-8 days a month or at the most 10 and it'd be more but a majority of SC trips seem to go to WS's especially 1-2 day stuff.
But ATL 88B at 505 pilots is the 2nd largest category in the system and is only behind the international category of ATL 7ER B which is 530. It didn't take much to wipe out the list on Christmas and IROPS can clean this category out as there are a lot of flights that have to be covered.
FWIW, 60% of this category are pre-9/11 FDAL hires.
