Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
So the company comes to DALPA and says. "We would like to convert 20 of our 70 seaters allowed to 76 seaters. If you agree we have a tentative order for 100 C series jets. The switch from 70 seaters will occur in a 1 for 5 ratio. For each 5 C series jets on the property and flying we get to convert 1 70 seater to a 76 seater. The overall fleet number which is currently at XXX cannot go below the current number plus the C series slots or we lose the extra 76 seaters. If C series jets are removed from the fleet we remove the 76 seats in a inverse proportion. Deliveries of the C series will start in 6 months and we will post a bid next week.
Would you say no???

Great post as usual. The AS codeshare looks especially painful for those of us in LA. Pretty stagnant down here. How has it really affected the operation? SEA? Seems to have grown quite a bit but I'm not smart enough to tell, that's for sure. It's definitely a complex subject but in regards to outsourcing larger/more jets to DCI I think we're past the point of discussion.
Problem is that if AS bought HI DAL would not be a winner of that bidding war. That is why I do not see it happening.
But, I would also ask, what it managements objective in such a proposal?
Sailing, are you saying that the objective is to convert 70 to 76 seaters by adding the CSeries? Or, are you just throwing out a "what if" just to see how serious we are? Is this another "if we give you a XX% raise, would you give us unlimited 100 seat flying?

He's just probing to see how much guys really mean Not one more seat.. pound.. etc.....
Personally, I wouldn't buy off on ANY management promises... until I see a real money making asset with a widget on the tail and Delta pilots up front.. it is no more real than a DB retirement plan.
Here is a prediction. There will be no real battle over relaxing scope in this contract. It wont even become a major issue. The fight will be to try and regain the EMB170/175 flying. If the EFA team can produce the numbers to show we can fly that flying at a reasonable cost compared to DCI it should be a all out war on our part.
Acl,
Do these senior captains say they are willing to give away scope to get the money, or are they saying all they want is money? Of course, I don't fly with any senior guys, but I have never heard anyone say they were willing to give up scope for anything. I don't see it on the forums, I don't hear it in the DTW pilot lounge, I don't hear it in the cockpit. Everyone I talk to wants money AND scope. So, from my vantage point, I think Carl's views are the views of the majority. Where are you hearing this "I want to get mine, everyone else be dammed" viewpoint?

I have had guys tell me they will do anything to better their financial position prior to retirement, even if that means selling some more small jets. They are generally the ones that bought something with their note money. (Most not all) Many of them see retirement in less than 10 years and do not want to work after it.
Keep in mind many of the guys I fly with are starting to realize that scope is not a "junior" issue. I talk about the success of the AF JV and what it does and now it is written, and then discuss the AS code share and what it "could" mean, then we talk about SJS. Some state frankly they could care less and realize that no matter what they see the bottom will not reach them, and others realize that pay has been temporary but to date scope has been permanent.
So what's the answer? Inquiring minds want to know!
BTW, commuted home Friday with a bunch of Orange clad people from Alabama. Told them "Roll Tide, hope you guys win for the Glory of the Great State of Alabama!" just like the commercial. Seems Orbitz had the cheapest way to Phoenix as Delta to SAT and USA express to Sky Harbor.

With all these cancellations, I have a question. What happens if i can't get back to ATL after a break for the next training event due to wx? Tough noogies?
