Not really. If we had a pure longevity-based system, you could look at the captains in any given category (assuming the flying was not particularly ugly or great), and cross out the junior 10, 15, or 20% (whatver the company wished to reduce). If T isn't in the bottom of his category, there would be no reason he would need to displace at all, because the distribution of Captains would be close to even across all fleets. Tha's the problem: T wouldn't have to be displaced, and neither would most people.

No, I probably would be displaced... and I stand an even better chance of being displaced if the whales get parked.

Don't worry. I gathered the family and went to chick-fil-a when we were down 24-7. I missed most of it too.

Why would Delta want to park the 747s right now anyways?

NOW you do, under the current system. Not so if we had been operating under a longevity-based system for a while.

I'm sure you'd be the frst to argue NFC's are not worth the paper they're printed on, so the better protections are always financial or physical limitiations placed on the company. If they have to train everyone in huge cascade events because people are displacing to a different airplane, they have a serious incentive not to reduce/furlough without a long-term payback. I don't know what contractual protections you would wish to add, but these cannot trump the limitations that would be recognized by the company's own bean-counters.

So I think you're tired of arguing this because you've just found the perfect argument against longevity pay, and you're stuck. I hadn't even thought of it beforehand: longevity pay is the perfect way to ensure easy, smooth, economical reductions in flying.
No, it is a waste of time discussing this with you just like discussing the pitfalls of alpa national is a waste of time with ACL... I'm not gonna change your mind, and you have the position of being in the catbird's seat. There won't be a change, because alpa is scared to death of trying anything different. I never said anything about a NFC either BTW... I disagree with your premises above because you are wrong. And in the immortal words of Forrest Gump.. "that's all I've got to say about that"

It's just used for the sake of illustration because I believe that under the current 1950 style pay system we have, they would have the most devastating effect systemwide if they were to be parked.

Damn.. what a stupid idea it would be then.... fewer junior pilots getting displaced in the event of an entire fleet getting parked... wow, I hope I remember to breathe. But even if I did get displaced under current system, I take a paycut. Under LBP, I wouldn't.... yeah.. stupid idea.

I would not worry about that. Really. It is a huge hole in their WB lift, and one that they would regret.

If they in fact did this, I would be concerned at the reasoning behind the action. Japan is important to us, but by gawd, those jets can be filled other places with our route network.
I can think of a few places.

Once or twice weekly service to Fiji. (AF does it from LAX but we could do it from somewhere else)

How about JFK-GIG, maybe DXB from JFK, how about AMS, LAX-SIN, LAX-BOM.

There are plenty of ways for us to rerack our jets on existing routes, increase mod lines to improve or product quicker. Once we get past this crisis, we will see that there is a need.

**Also do not forget that we love MAC flying and MAC flying loves us! More Whales to do that flying makes the DOD very happy. The military personnel are happier too.

You should have heard the stories of one group I took to Asia. The went from their base to LAX-HNL-GUM-somewhere in the Marshall Islands to their destination on a 737 flown by Miami Air.(refueling stops only) So yes, our long range jets will have a home.

Ahh, now that, that is over, lets talk about who is going to win the NCAA tourney.

I think Sink's point was it is not all about you(or me), but the group as a whole.
