The key reason however is to provide a better quality of life for reserve pilots. It certainly would be possible to set up a move up system like the flight attendants have that could run the day prior and even same day as trips drop into open time. It will however result in absolute crap for reserve pilots in terms of trip quality. Every change in how we assign trips has ramifications that are different for each seniority segment. I don't ever plan on being on reserve again but don't mind granting this benefit to reserve pilots.
Wow. I never knew I had this great benefit when I got reserve.

Nope. And it has nothing to do with his transgressions. He has become bigger than the game.. and that ain't right. Sorry, I hope he never wins another tournament.

You mean that somebody might take those high time Mexico City or SFO all nighters away from us if they could within the 48 hours? Wow... I didn't know we had it so good. Do you ever look at the open time beyond the international trips that are NEVER there?

What is this quality of life and trip quality that you speak of? I never knew I had it so well!!

Oh, you mean the 50 hours of flying and 40 hours of deadheads that I had in december? With similar makeups in other months? That trip quality is faannntastic!

I really don't buy any of this. The first three reasons you give are all issues that scheduling have to DEAL WITH ANYWAY when assigning the majority of trips for various reasons such as sick calls, equip. changes, reroutes etc.

As far as making reserve trip quality "crap" as you say I am not so sure. Folks that want to swap a 2/3 day for a 3/4 day trip would actually help reserves by pulling a LONGER trip out of the pot that a reserve would have had to fly, thus making them work less for the same pay basically.
The benefit you wish to "grant" reserves for the ability to yellow slip preference of those trips in the pot, is hurting the ability of 85% of the pilot group to swap/pick-up trips that are sitting there in the pot.

Granted our reserve rules stink up a storm and need a major overhaul, and that fight will benefit us all. Locking the majority of pilots out of swapping with the pot within this 48 hour rule ( when most trips show up nowadays, which is important) is very short-sighted. Especially with the new reserve requirements that has freed up personal drops in most categories tested. Guys will just drop their weekend trips and pick up white slips during the week, making the reserves fly even more on the weekend. Hence making the quality of life worse for reserve.

It ****es me off that ALPA gives the same song and dance about "wanting a stable open time pot 48 hours prior blah blah blah"

It is like dealing with politicians. They don't have this problem. We have the freakin technology/power to work on a basic quality of life change to give us the ability to modify our schedules that I would enjoy if I was a mid-seniority fry cook at the compton McDonalds.
Why don't we start there.

“You are going to continue to see that investment in Los Angeles,” he said. “With all of our partners including Alaska and all of our SkyTeam partners we have the No. 1 position in L.A., and we are focused on growing it.”

Lets hope its on our metal. I just tried to get a buddy pass for my sister to fly from SEA-LAX. EVERY flight is on Delta*----operated by Alaska.
The potential is certainly there. Right now, its SWA and everybody else. Terminal 6 is definitely undergoing a massive upgrade. I think the last time they put some lipstick on that pig the Beatles' White Album was at the top of the charts.

I, too, hope its our metal. I've been flying some LAX-SFO turn stuff, which is kinda fun. However, we just added LAX-SAN and LAX-SMF but Skywest is flying that stuff. Other then that, all the north-south west coast stuff is Alaska under the code share.

Lyrics for Delta Lena's new video "AE Bid Day"

6am, waking up in the morning
Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs
Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal
Seein’ everything, the time is goin’
Tickin’ on and on, everybody’s rushin’
Gotta log in to iCrew
Gotta bid the airbus, get off the niiiine

Kickin’ in the left seat
Sittin’ in the right seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I hold?

It’s Bid day, Bid day
iCrew is down on Bid day
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the AE, AE
Bid day, Bid day
Logging in on Bid day
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the AE

Mac OS won't login (Yeah)
Windows is still crashin' (Yeah)
C, P, S, C
Lookin’ forward to the AE

9:45, we’re flyin'on the airway
Cruisin’ so fast, I want time to fly
Fun, fun, think about fun
You know what it is
I bid this, you bid this
My checkride is tonight
I bid this, you bid this
Now you know it

Kickin’ in the left seat
Sittin’ in the right seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I hold?

It’s Bid day, Bid day
Gotta log in on Bid day
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the AE, AE
Bid day, Bid day
Logging in on Bid day
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the AE

Going to the Boeing (Yeah)
Bidding off the Mad Dog (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the AE

Yesterday was short call, short call
Today i-is Bid day, Bid day
We-we-we so excited
We so excited
We gonna have a block someday

Tomorrow is SPOT day
And LOFT comes after…wards
I don’t want this AE to end

[Rap Verse]

A-E, Advance Entitlement
So chillin’ in the left seat (In the left seat)
In the right seat (In the right seat)
I’m flyin’, cruisin’ (Yeah, yeah)
Fast lanes, switchin’ planes
Wit’ a MCRib and my Airside (Woo!)
(C’mon) Passin’ by is a airbus in front of me
Makes tick tock, tick tock, wanna scream
Check my time, it’s Bid day, it’s a AE
We gonna have fun, c’mon, c’mon, y’all

It’s Bid day, Bid day
Gotta log in on Bid day
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the AE, AE
Bid day, Bid day
Loggin' in on Bid day
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the AE

Man, that 737 is treating you like the Airbus treats it's guys.

I was cheering for Tiger. I'm sorry, Tiger is the only guy I recognize out there. He might be a scumbag, but oh the drama would be so entertaining and after the bashing he took about his game this week it'd be fun to hear people eat their words. But so would have a 10 man -10 playoff have been entertaining!

Ah, Tiger's wife... I think of that Jim Carrey movie "liar liar" where his ex-wife says "when we were married I wasn't having sex half as much as you were". I don't think Tiger's wife could say "half as much", I think we're dealing here with smaller fractions.
