And just because your Dad, and your grandfather, and your great grandfather, if they wanted a job, had to move to where the job was; you don't. Because you are a special breed, and think it perfectly reasonable that the job has to move to where you are. I get it.[/QUOTE]
OK Bud Just to give you an Example of 2008 Hire....DTW DC9,MEM DC9, DTW 320, ANC 747, MSP 747, MEM DC9, MSP DC9, DTW DC9, MSP 7ER, DTW 7ER. ALL in 3.5 years and 90% were not by choice. Are you telling me me that I should move my family every time? You are smoking crack! Because of the guys like you my DPA card has been filled out.

Relax -- no one is being punished. But DAL was willing to put a policy in place so long as it wasn't abused. When pilot's on this board say the NWA policy was "use it as often as you want", and assume that should be the same here, the policy will end up coming down. Once again, the majority who are using it as intended, will be punished by the few who abuse it.
Look, the overwhelming commuters are responsible and conservative. Having a policy that allows us a break when crap hits the fan is a stress reducer, which is good safety/risk management. Why add the stress back in of knowing they are now "tracking you"?
Oh, and adding the flight attendants was just dump and asking for the program to fail. Having them show to work stressed is not as dangerous as having us stressed. Don't you think?
But, I've always been amazed that you have never seen the logic behind all this. You can shake your head in disgust that some people are like this, but I maintain that the "average guy" (not me and I have the FAILURE to commute letters to prove it) will call in sick vs call in stupid.
I no longer have a dog in this fight, I commute almost exclusively on Southwest and leave myself 2 backups. As far as move, your new pilot group (which was 5/7s your original size) mostly commute and YOUR company is adding more commuters every day. Having us commute is going to be VASTLY cheaper than moving us.

Talked to an 88 Capt that got counseled for using it twice in one month from DFW. In the conversation it came out that the policy had been used over 400 times already, and a very large percent were from DFW. Didn't have a breakdown of pilot vs FA uses. That would be an interesting number to see. At NWA, the FAs didn't have the call in honest policy. I suspect the policy won't last long if those numbers continue.
FWIW
When I saw this thread started I had no doubt as to the validity of the letter and no doubt it was a bad thing for our policy. So I went to the source and contacted my chief pilot and he said emphatically "NO" letters are not being put in files. He has no knowledge of these particular circumstances but from his office "NO". I believe him and trust him and I am a FORCED commuter, so I have skin in the game.
In a general sense, I would love to hear all sides of the story when a pilot gets done in a chief pilots office, but it will never happen because only one side is free to to talk about the details. Either we have a policy or we don"t that is clear. If someone is abusing the policy then we have a clear process for remedy. I think a particular CP office was seeking to remedy an issue and felt a letter was the way to handle it. I think it "MAY" be an individual thing and a bad response to a particular situation on part of the company.
I have no issue ever using this policy and feel confident it will work as intended and I will use it as intended if I need to. So, now I will get ready for my commute (7th one in 4 weeks) Gotta love 10 hr 3days.

I have no issue using it if I need to and if I do, I will be responsible for my actions and do what I can to be at work on time.

I am amazed that the "average guy" has no qualms calling in sick when he's not. Justify it anyway you want, but the bottom line is it's lying to your employer. And we ALL pay the price for that.
I'm done with this topic...again. I'd like to think most commuters are honest, but frankly, you are the only one to admit to NOT abusing sick leave. For that, I applaud your high character.
But I'm embarrassed to be associated with a group in which most commuters on this board apparently have such low integrity.
What are your thoughts on the risk management parts? Did the company set it up to fail by adding the flight attendants?
etc etc
