That's a good sign, maybe getting LAX to Melbourne for Delta, while V gets to expand LAX to Brisbane. We can't fly within Australia, so flying to their major cities and allowing Virgin Australia to fly people onto smaller cities is a good thing. V flying Brisbane to LAX also brings connecting passengers to us via LAX. It would be nice for us to fly all of the oceanic flights, but that is unrealistic initially. Even with openskies to Australia, this probably a good way to get a foot hold into that country initially. I was also told that our LAX to SYD flight would not be daily if it weren't for the codeshare with AK. I personally wish more of our own planes could be doing that connecting in LAX, but.......

Excellent...

"Do not taunt happy fun ball" has been in the back of my head for 20 years and I could never remember why.

Now I know where it came from.

You mean that Delta can't fly all Delta passengers to where they want to go?;)

I just looked at the seniority calculator. It's depressing. In 5 years. I'll be about 11,100 (after 9 years at company). I'm looking at about a 17-18 year upgrade. My captain seems older so I asked him when he's going to retire. He said "about 2 years." I just looked up his name. He's 63. At least he's honest.

That 11,100 number after 9 years cannot be right... well, actually, looks about right.

I don't remember if you're in 07 hire mixed in with 08 hires right or a 08 hire hired in 08 with all of the other repugnant folks hired in 08? :D

If 07, 9 years would be 2016, yeah only about 800 or so guys are gone by then. If 08, 9 years would be 2017, about 1184 guys will be gone. Somewhere in between there and yeah you could only be down to 11,100.

Are you aiming for DTW A320 A? I think the plug resides around 49%, the average Captain's age is 54.6, and only 17% of the category is 60 or older. When will you be 49%? You're about spot on, 16-17 years.

Problem is the average age is 51.5. You need just about everyone 52 and older to leave before you're in position for 320 A. It's far away and a long time from now though and obviously there will be a lot of changes like the SWA pilots nearing age 65 changing it to 70.

But it could be good changes, ask ACL for good changes if you want good changes. Bad changes? Ask Bar. Whichever you prefer to hear you can get.

:D

It would be nice, but then again the 777 nonstop from LAX to Alice Springs may be a bit light on the loads 6 months of the year..... Some of the codeshares may help us out a lot. That is of course if BOTH airlines get to fly to each other's country and take advantage of each other's feed within that other country. But, when only one side does it, I want that to be our airline.

Agreed Bill.

My rants earlier were directed primarily at our poor domestic outsourcing quality control... our codeshare partners run their own operations with the pride that is necessary (and in many cases exceeding our product).

A well done JV like the AF/KL JV is one I don't mind. I hope to see the like with V Austrailia if that is coming.... sure would be nice to shore up the AS one.
