I had a couple of PHF trips and when I was a CVGM88FO. Without a doubt, the worst layover ever. 30 minute drive to hotel and the hotel is on the southern outskirts of Williamsburg so you're not close to anything. Hotel: Cigarette holes in the linen, torn and dirty upholstry on the furniture, closet doors dangling/stacked up against the wall, trim and molding falling down, boogers and ink marks on the walls, and worse, there was mold growing on the walls and ceiling. They also didn't have any luggage racks to help prevent the spread of bedbugs to your luggage. (The Capts room was in similar shape). Food? What food? The food in the hotel restaurant was disgusting and there's only a gas station, a steakhouse with very limited hours, a pancake place, and a fast food option (Long John Silvers?).
Even the locals know it sucks. Hotel staff, "Unless you have a car, you're pretty much screwed." "I wouldn't recommend eating at Yorkshire Steak and Seafood." Pancake restaurant owner as I walked in, "Ah, you must be a MD-88 pilot?" "Nobody walks this far to get here except you guys." The Captain and I wrote the place up. But here's the kicker ... I sent an email to the ALPA Hotel Committee Representative. And after waiting 2 months for a response, he replied to my email and acknowledged that they were scouting for a new hotel. But seeing that we're still staying way out in Williamsburg ****es me off when you have much better hotel choices with food options and a mall in Newport News. I can layover in Compton as long as I only have to walk across the street to get to good places to eat or a store to buy something I need. Capt found this place last time I was there. Only a 1.1 mile walk in the nasty humid weather |

Hampton Roads/Williamsburg VA
I'll admit that I haven't been to the area in maybe 20 years, but when I was based at Langley AFB there were some great places to eat in Hampton, VA and I'm sure stay. The main drag is Mercury Blvd and as I recall there was a mall and tons of places around Mercury and I64.
Google the area, see what ya think, and drop a note to the hotel committee. I'd do it for ya...........but homie don't go that far east:D |

Anyone know what it would take to get Ship 41 flying again?
http://deltamuseum.org/Images/deltahistory/DC3jet.jpg It would be a lot cheaper than taking the 757 to air shows. Wonder how much DC3 time the insurance underwriters would require for PIC? |
