Guys,
I don't understand why there is such a big deal about wearing hats? Sometimes we sound like toddlers. The company asks for it - wear it. Tons of people don’t like tons of things about their jobs. If you don't like it make sure it is the right size and looks good. Take it to dry cleaning once in a while with the rest of your uniform. And besides, what's next? Backpacks, wrinkled shirts, dirty shoes? Spiky hear? Earphones? Nipples, visible through your shirt? Crying about how delta tickets should be flown by delta pilots? But from the way we look - what's the difference? Maybe I am exaggerating here, but can we really ask for 100% pay restoration if we look like pilots who make $20/hour? PS. NO, NOT RUNNING for CPO. No, not a Marine. Yes, worked for a company where hats were optional and didn't wear it for years. No, not balding. Yes, tired of seeing pilots who look like trash. Thx. :) I despise wearing ties, should I start leaving my tie at home because I don't like wearing it even though it's company policy? PS- I also hate the hat but I wear it because Delta tells me to. Easy as that. |

I agree. Well said!
I hate wearing the hat, but I do it because it's part of the uniform, etc. Others may disagree but I think the (properly worn) Delta pilot uniform is by far the best looking in the industry. When I see some guy walking around with his double breasted jacket unbuttoned and no hat...I cringe. I see pilots who work for the DCI carrier Du jour with (or without) hats, with (or without) jackets, with (or without) backpacks, ear buds, etc. There's no standardization even within the individual DCI carrier. In short the whole lot of them are very unprofessional looking. I think it was in charm school where they told us passengers look at a pilot's shoes. If they see they are clean and shined; that gives them confidence that the pilot has his (or her) sh*t together (my phrase). frequency, and frequent flyer miles...at least thats what the current ceo used to say. Don't care if the hat is worn or not...as of now its in the FOM. |
Not about hats...
Techies...help !
OK, I start the 73ng 400 series sims tomorrow, and as of today, I cannot download the DIG, or any of the training aids.....worked fine until today. I've tried two different PC's and AOL, and IE....no luck. The error message I receive is DAL file cannot be downloaded to the cache using this browser.........always worked until today. If anyone is on DBMS, would you see if you can download the DIG or any of the training aids, or even the 73 flaps 15 article ? I'm out of ideas. Thanks, BG |

If the Hat is so important then why do we outsource over 50% of our domestic departures to companies that have different uniform standards? I agree with you that that the hat is required as part of our uniform - I have no issue with that and unlike a lot of posters on here I don't even mind the hat. My question for management is this: If the hat is so important to our image as a company then why not require all DCI companies to also wear a hat? There is nothing wrong with questioning the uniform standards, especially when management appears to contradict itself in this area. Like I said, I personally have no problem with the hat, been wearing one for 25 years in the Navy. Just wondering about the apparent inconsistencies throughout the Delta "system" regarding the hat. Scoop - once again in the contrarian frame of mind. :) |

That doesn't mean we should look bad on purpose of course. But to fully return to the high water mark days of Delta pride (or whatever you want to call it) will require real and sustained leadership as well as inclusive restoration. This includes pay, Captain's authority, Flt Ops > other departments and on and on. Uniforms and appearance are absolutely on that list too, but a pilot group can only be expected to internalize pride and esprit de corps out of personal ambition and nothing else only for so long. Leadership comes from the top and this new era of quarterly bonus monger hatchet men will take that away from the most loyal and proud pilot group eventually. Since we're talking fashion police stuff, I think a tie with a short sleeve looks asinine. What we need are really good quality white shirts and nicer epaulets and we could ditch the ties and look way more professional than the wafer thin Dilbert look we have now. Ties should be for the winter uniform only (and yes I always wear mine because its required but it looks redonkulous with a short sleeve shirt). |
