Google Bakken Formation. According to Continental Resources it is the largest oil discovery in the last 40 years and they estimate they can extract 24 Billion Barrells of oil from the formation. They have to use fracturing "frac" technology to get the oil. They basically pump a mixture of hot water and sand into a well that has been drilled and pressurize it. That fractures the rock formation and allows the oil to be pumped out. It can take up to 12 million gallons of water on some wells. They have to haul all of that in one semi-load at a time. Takes ALOT of trucks and they need it all done within a two week period. The oil companies are paying outrageous amounts of money to truck owners to go up there because nobody wants to be there.

Any of you guys remember the number of that truck driving school?

As a Tampa resident, I'm frankly ashamed that the company puts us up in that craphole motel. Even the Hurricane Wings place down the street is beyond shady...and don't walk there after dark. Worst possible location in the city--zero redeeming qualities.

The last thing those truckers need is a bunch of wet-commercial low-time guys jumping at these jobs and driving down the pay.

Not to mention the accident rates when you put some noob just off IOE behind the wheel of a loaded semi on an icy, twisting road.

:D

It is a little crazy. I live just east of Fargo, ND (a fact I rarely admit). They literally can't find enough workers in the state. In the western part of the state farmers have become instant millionaires. Taco Bell is paying over $20/hr just to find people. Anyone who has any technical skills is getting hired for pretty big money.

However, the amount of money that you can make up there is crazy so I really don't care how cold and miserable it is. There are guys up there making more in one month than you can make at Delta all year. It literally is a modern day gold rush. Until you've been up there, you really don't understand what is going on.

Grew up in Minot, (Parents still live there.) and they expect the town to triple in size in the next 3-5 years. (Currently at 40k people, expected to grow to over 100,000.) The "AVERAGE" income per oil worker up here in N.D. is $100k/year. (That's the average.)

I'm a pilot, (live/work/commute from Fargo) and frankly, don't feel like working that hard, so instead purchased multiple investment properties in Minot. Plan to have the properties free and clear in five years based on the ROI between what the monthly mortgage rate is, and what a 2/3 bedroom apartment is renting for.

There's money/employment to be had in Western North Dakota right now. State has an unemployment rate of 3.5%.

Good day, (Fly safe for you 80):)

Work hard? That defeats the whole purpose of being a pilot.

Are the ceilings that high on a modern carrier? I've only been on the Intrepid and Kennedy.
