They have been doing that a lot lately. Their lack of anger seems to indicate to me that they knew what they were up to. A scheduler can AKC for you, and because of that, they could have sworn they called you.
I always check my sked right when I start SC, and then one minute later so I can get a screen shot with the time stamp on it. I also take a screen shot of the coverage list. I haven't been around all that long and all but it does say in the PWA 23 S. 9 e. A Short Call Pilot: e. will not be assigned a rotation without an attempted contact by Crew Scheduling. Checking our schedules at start time seems like the whole give them an inch concept |

Actual conversation this morning with scheduling:
Me: Hi, this is DAL 88 Driver, employee #XXXXXX. (no, I used my real name... he probably would have REALLY been confused if I used DAL 88 Driver and I was a DC-9 pilot :D) I'm your short call this morning. I'm staying at a hotel 5 minutes from the airport and wanted to let you know I'm going out for a run. I'll be gone about 40 minutes... so if you need me for something, just leave a message and I'll check my phone as soon as I get back in the room. I can be over to the airport very quickly after that. Scheduler: [rambles a bit leading me to believe he doesn't quite have the gist of what I'm trying to tell him] Me: Well, I just didn't want you to panic if you tried to call and I didn't answer my phone. If you need me to fly, I can be there very quickly... even if it takes me a few minutes to call you back. Scheduler: Oh, I never panic. If you don't call me back within 30 minutes, I just take the trip off your line and turn the matter over to your Chief Pilot. Me: Well, that's kinda the whole point of why I'm calling you. If you call 5 minutes after I walk out of the room to go run, it might take me slightly longer than 30 minutes to call you back, but I can make it to the airport to do any flying you need very quickly as this hotel is only 5 minutes away from the airport. Scheduler: Okay. I can remember that you're close. Be careful out there, folks. The mentality in scheduling these days does not seem to be what us "south" guys have been used to. |

Wondering myself if Southwest will be able to finagle a few more slots out of this deal in the end. That would clearly be against ongoing anti-trust violation concerns, but nothing would surprise me.
Anyone else want to venture a guess as to who will be the winner of said divested slots? I'm think Spirit may grasp a few. Its an auction and they have the most money. Here's a prediction: Now that Southwest has a presence at Reagan, the rules restricting long haul flights out of there will get modified. |

Hey FTB,
Doesn't that enable scheduler's bad behavior ? Kind of like when I had overdraft protection on my kid's checking accounts. No disrespect, BG Butt... http://www.flickr.com/photos/powelgallery/3738974086/http://www.flickr.com/photos/powelgallery/3738974086http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3480/...25d0cd87ec.jpg Each time I had already seen the trip on my schedule. Yes I didn't acknowledge any of them because they were usually the ones with less than 2 hours to go which I hate. The reason I look is I'm 1:30 from the time I get in my truck to the time in the crewroom, so I need any extra lead time. Now on one of those occasions was around Christmas during all of those snow storms and we were out of pilots. At 7am I saw the trip on my schedule it was a 10am go yet I didn't go on SC until 8am. Now I never figured they wouldn't call so I headed out around 730-745. At 800am no call, 830 no call, at 900am i'm trying to call them but the lines were busy right up until I rolled into the parking lot. I said "do you have a trip for me?" and the scheduler was like "let me see... oh... uh oh... get there when you can." "I'm here." Now I could've just waited until they called me and gotten there when I could but I figured that wasn't going to do those passengers, my crew or myself any favors because that trip was mine come hell or high water. But that's also the reason I never acknowledge those < 2 hour trips, I don't want the ball in my court until I get called because I've got to navigate down the lousy I85 or GA400. Had I not checked, yeah, I'd gotten a call probably at 10am when the Captain didn't have an FO. As it was I got there 10 or 15 prior to push thanks to the lousy weather and the buses were having driving issues. Of course what happened when I got there? There was a full plane and everyone was waiting on me yet nothing had been done. I got a disgruntled "where have you been?" Oh well, glad I don't live to impress others. |
Was I reading too much into SD's memo this morning or did I read between the lines and see we are waiting for the flight hour plan and the board to meet to determine our hiring needs?
Notice I didn't say if, with the unplanned losses and the training time limits we will need to start soon. |
Never mind, Dragon made my point.
