It's not like Chiquita has been in Cincy forever, they only moved there about 20 years ago when a local guy bought them and moved them from NYC. When that guy died, they tried to leave the city in 2005 but were offered enough sweeteners to stay. Besides, most of Chiquita's flying would be to Latin and South America (particularly Costa Rica)....even at our height, I don't remember CVG having much if any of those routes. The downscaling of CVG may have played a minscule role in their decision to leave, but in the end it comes down to money...and blaming the airport is a good PR way for Chiquita to downplay it's greed and desire to go for the highest bidder. |

You compared a city with a state. Fail.
At one time, Cincinnati held this distinction. I believe per capita it is still highly ranked with global and fortune 500s companies. Everyone is correct, these companies enjoyed the hub that DAL provided and the city news and government always threw DAL under the bus. Now everyone expects a LCC to rescue Cincinnati and that isn't going happen. Guys, I think the flaw in the above line of thinking is "per capita." If a very small town has two Fortune 500 numbers its per capita numbers would be skewed high. While CVG is not that small - it is not that big of a market either. Besides DAL does not even like LAX - the 2nd largest metropolitan area in the country. Its either ATL or everything else. Although I believe DAL may have finally realized that NYC (largest metropolitan area) might be worth fighting for - although its no ATL. Scoop |

Probably the people who fund uncle Sam.
The military was this way for decades and eventually most guys just gave up and just went along. A few years ago the military started showing signs of change - anyone currently flying wish to chime in? Scoop |

I take it we aren't at the NY Yankee place anymore? What was the name of the hotel joint, Capt Sandbox or something? At least the Jack was cold and the waitresses enhanced:eek:
Correct. That place rocked, and Bahama Breeze was right across the street. Scoop |

And its only about 10 degrees colder than Minneapolis on average, but no worries, there's no trees or hills up there to block the wind. So with the wind always about 30 mph, the wind chill is often -40, but you will have fabulous views of miles and miles of flat brown dirt. And you only have to drive around 50 miles or so (depending on where you live) to a decent shopping mall or restaurant, of course that's only on the days the blowing snow and ice covered roads aren't so bad you can actually leave the house.
I lived there for 4 years, I can honestly say I think it is the worst place to live in the continental US. I would walk to class and the wind was so strong into my face that my eyes (the only thing uncovered) would water and then freeze onto my face. I would literally (I swear I'm not exaggerating) pluck ice tears off my cheeks. |

Furthermore, I have yet to be greeted with a free beer, if that changes in the future I will revise my review, but as it stands now I give the place two enthusiastic ATL senior A-line thumbs down.
As a rule, I try to never go to any Hotel Bar/Restaurant. I don't need any more $12 dried out Chicken sandwiches or the standard massive selection of two draft beers for 7 bucks a pop. |

Cold and miserable is an understatement! I've been up there for a couple of months now and it is not easy by any means. However, the amount of money that you can make up there is crazy so I really don't care how cold and miserable it is. There are guys up there making more in one month than you can make at Delta all year. It literally is a modern day gold rush. Until you've been up there, you really don't understand what is going on.

Very true. There are truckers up there making well over a 100K a year transporting oil everywhere. This was the temporary fix until they built the pipeline, but apparently the current administration blocked it. Looks like these jobs and there pay are here to stay for some time.
