It's been a rough year. It's one thing just to suck, but it's another thing entirely to show talent and promise and still suck.

AE decision crunch time.

VDing from atl 767a to left coast. Vacillating btw 7er & 73n. Flown both. Going to live in the laguna niguel/dana point area.

73n plus:

no. 4 a, i.e., perfect schedule. Would fly 90%+ of my trips from sna, i.e., reasonable drive. GS every mo.

minus:

@ 6ft tall, transcons in that cockpit remind me of my time @ navy sere school! Looks like alot of transcons!

7er plus:

grt cockpit/jet, grt mix of flying, could hold asia @ least 6mo./yr.

minus:

1/3 from bottom, would require me to continue my daily schedule involvement, i.e., drop all trips & p/u m thru sa trips...works extremely well, but after 8yrs of doing this...a bit of a pita. After checking oct/nov daily open time awards, looks very doable.

Any thoughts grtly appreciated.

p.s. how long to drive to lax from laguna/dana during rush hours & visa versa. also, when exactly are the rush hours on this route.

Thx.

You could pm your DBMS login to some of the LA guys who post on here and when the results come out it would be like Christmas.:D

They need to play in the choke bowl.

Think I know the answer but. I have a 4 day trip next month followed by 2 days of CQ. Can I use pos. space going to work for the 4 day being that I won't be going home after the trip? Or do I just get pos. space coming home after CQ?

Sorry...missing the joke (but I am an old guy)... moving after 23yrs in one place... just looking for thoughts from people who live there, to help ease the transition/solidify my decision before the clock strikes 14... thanks for your response.

Hey Dream,

Just saw your post after flying all weekend. I'm on the 73 and live north of LA. Here are a few thoughts to consider:

-The 73 guys have to cover LAX, SNA and ONT. Depending on the time of year, the check-in stations vary greatly. Banking on getting 90% of your trips out of SNA is risky. Sometimes only about 10% of our trips start from SNA and there are a boatload of former NAVY guys living in San Diego that all want those. So be forewarned. On average, about 70-75% of all trips start in LAX.

-At the moment, our 73 trips out of LA blow. November's bid package had something like 65% of our rotations starting with a red eye. We have a lot of three-day 10.5 hour credit trips. DALPA is "looking into it" but you know how that works.

-Finally, the drive up from Dana to LAX is a crap shoot. Totally depends on the time of day and day of week. I live 45 miles north of LAX and typically leave home 2+ hours prior to sign in unless its morning rush hour or Friday evening and then its more like 2+30.

Hope this helps. Shoot me a PM if you want any additional info!

+1 on Buzz's post

73N trips are like regional airline trips....
17cr 4-day trips.

the 405 is the wildcard.
It's taken me, no kidding, 2hrs to go 7 miles at 2AM...you just never know.

As for the cockpit of the 73, if you're over 6ft tall it's either: seat all the way back, or recline, not both...

Cheers
George

3 minutes to go! ;-)

How does the "count pilots holding a preference for a specific category" under AE bidding work? If someone is frozen but has a bid in does it count? It seems to me these numbers are a little high..Just wondering if there is any useful info to be found here..thanks

Buzz & Georgetg,

Thanks for the info. Looked at oct/nov/dec 73n and as #4 capt, seemed like I could fly 4 4dy sna trips worth 21hrs+, each mo...understand that this can/will change monthly.

A bit worried about the drive to lax on the ER, I suppose that's the price of living in perfect weather.

Looks like I try for the ER for now (3dy school/TOE), then figure out the rest after I've lived there a year or so.

Buzz, PM sent.
