Here's the net vacancies and surpluses posted from the last AE:

TOTAL VACANCIES: CAPT: 212 F/O: 150 TOTAL SYSTEM: 362

TOTAL SURPLUSES: CAPT: 170 F/O: 192 TOTAL SYSTEM: 362
Just doing quick and dirty math:

Looks like we lost:

1 DC-9 A spot if you assumed they would all go to the MD88.
1 320 A positions system-wide.
15 777 A positions.
6 747 A positions

A positions lost: 23 A spots lost.

Looks like we gained:

6 765 A positions
39 330 A positions
20 73N A positions.

A positions gained: 65

...it's all the more interesting considering we've retired 3 times as many Captains in the past few months. I'm in the top 25% of my category and I moved backwards several spots on this last bid. So for me personally, it was a net [B] negative. Not mad ,just disappointed.

I nominate Carl and FTB to create a new pin, lanyard, tie or even hat band that could be our new fighting slogan to get our flying back. Some new jazzy slogan about " Screw the bureaucratic monster ALPA, we want DPA!"

Default Africa flying

With a projected loss in Africa overall....how is our premium return working? ( from the past Aviation week)

Middle Eastern carriers have to prepare for tougher market conditions, given their large exposure to the weakening European long-haul markets. IATA now sees them reaching a $300 million profit next year, down from its previous $700 million guidance. Latin America will amass $100 million in profits, while Africa faces $100 million in combined losses, the association projects.

“The growth rate of premium traffic is slowing,” says Lobbenberg. While it is still positive, the trend is coming down. “I think premium traffic is going to decline,” he notes. And with that decline, yields in the critical sector also are expected to come under pressure, hurting the bottom line of major network carriers. “We think the premium carriers are going to struggle quite badly” in Europe, Lobbenberg says.

Those GoJet airplanes are at ASA's expense.
