Home Depot sells an indoor safe Kerosene heater for $139. 23,000 BTU capable and will heat 1000 square feet no problem. 5 gallons of K-1 will cost about $30 and run that heater for 24 hours straight at high heat, or 32 hours at a lower setting.

I found it to be really cheap insurance when living in an area with ice storms that can knock out power or cause damaging surges.

 

Wow! I was reading the results of the rotation survey, & I am SHOCKED at the number of arrogant comments. These guys just don't get it. WAKE UP!!!! Many, many, many commuters DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE!!!! If you want to pay the LOSS on my mortgage due to the housing collapse I'll gladly move to base. Or how about the junior guys who have been displaced TWICE on the last 2 AE's? Are you going to help them?!? What a bunch of JERKS!!

Must be nice to have enough seniority to not have to worry the little people who are junior to you.

NOTE-I know there are lots of non commuters who aren't against commuting.

I'd think twice if I were you...

I live in Park City and the snow totals are abysmal. I've lived there for 13 years and there is less snow at Christmas than any year I can remember.

The Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon areas typically get in the neighborhood of 500" a year. (Not a mis-print). Park City Mountain Resort, Canyons and Deer Valley average 350-400".

I personally recommend skiing in Park City during the Sundance film festival. Lodging will be tough in Park City as the hotels fill up with moviegoers. The plus side is everyone is watching movies and the slopes are empty.

 

They also have oil filled electric radiator heaters for $39 that will heat a large room (5,300 BTU). Those will buy you time if you have electricity, and while hot won't burn a child that does a quick touch. There are slightly more expensive quartz heaters available as well that are even safer for kids.

Thanks slow! She's feeling up to feeding him at night. That helps a lot as I can sleep through the night and let her nap during the day. It really is true that I work less at work then I do at home!

 

I'm a non commuter, but realize that any bid could throw me into that realm so I support stuff that makes commuting easier. It looks to me like we have more than 1/2 of us that commute so we need to find stuff that will benefit both commuters and non-commuters.

Paying extra for a guy to sit SC reserve or creating SC only reserve lines that pay 80hrs would be one example. Non commuters could make extra $$$ and commuters wouldn't get SC.

Also 5-day trips suck for a local guy. It should be mandatory that they sign in after 11AM and release before 5PM. The only 5-day trips local guys are getting are the ones that are non-commutable. If they made them commutable then everyone would be happy because commuters would bid them and local guys wouldn't have to fly them.

There are things we could get that will benefit both commuters and non-commuters and make everyone happy.

I'm a local guy and intentionally bid five-day trips. By flying two five-day trips and one four day trip every month I can build a nice block of days off. I would much rather do that than just have a bunch of four-on, three off, or even four-on, four-off schedules.

If you want to go somewhere having several days off is great....

I know everyone read the NYC & ATL updates, here is the MSP news letter:

LGA Slot Swap
By now we are sure you are aware of the announced approval of the LGA slot swap with US Airways.

The announced ratio of mainline vs. regional flying is extremely disappointing to every Delta pilot, including your reps. Your reps refuse to defend or explain the Company’s actions regarding the business plan for LGA. We will say the following:

· No negotiations took place with ALPA for approval of the slot swap.
· No changes to the PWA occurred to permit the slot swap.
· The Company is in compliance of the PWA with the growth at LGA.
· The initial slot allocation at LGA was heavily weighted to regional flying.

Management informed ALPA that there would be a larger percentage of mainline flying than what actually resulted. Management was even informing the pilots through road shows and information to the chief pilots that the ratio would be greater. Mainline may still be affected as the flying of the current 70- and 76-seat aircraft should be reallocated. ALPA is waiting to see if any of this flying is allocated to mainline aircraft.

Your reps understand the value of Delta positioning itself as the largest carrier in the world’s largest market. What we don’t understand is the marketing plan. Mr. Anderson was known during his Northwest tenure to protect the airline’s hubs with a fortress-like tenacity. We do not understand a “metered” approach with the introduction of flying in our own hub. It has been explained that Delta felt it to be difficult to compete with AMR and United as they will protect their hubs. As AMR is in bankruptcy, why don’t we take the fight to them? Anyone who has played a sport knows you must score to win. Defense is important, but if you never score a great defense will only result in a tie! ALPA and the pilots of Delta did their part and continue to wait for their share of the flying.

· Management “asked” ALPA and the pilots of Delta to help with the approval.
· ALPA and the Delta pilots supported and assisted in gaining the approval.
· The Delta pilots must be repaid for their assistance.

Your reps were further amazed by management’s complete lack of awareness as to how the pilot group would receive the announcement. We agree that the expansion will be good for Delta, but there is a history of many things that have been good for the airline but was in no way a benefit to its pilots. With Section 6 right around the corner, why would management completely disregard the expectations of its pilots? All that management has accomplished is to motivate the pilot group to work alone in getting a better contract. Management must understand that the pilots will not forget what we have brought, and continue to bring, to Delta and that these actions must be rewarded!
