Depends.

Are the NWA guys going to willingly commute to NYC to fly the 330 and ER. It is a nightmare commute. Crash pads are expensive, and you are always delayed. Is that how you want to spend you time??? ;)

ACL,

IMO, NYC is about to get a lot more senior. DAL-N has a lot of guys in BOS, NYC, and PHL who see NYC as an easier commute or even a drive

Good!

MEM??

What's the concensus on how much cross bidding we'll see after SOC? I've heard there may not be nearly as much aircraft movement as expected. Most bases could stay the same with trips built to accomplish what the company wants. Do you think we'll see a free for all with displacements across the board or a slow trickle as AEs open up?

Depends. With the over staffing issue, they could easily get a lot of training done this winter and next fall. It would solve the issue of doing it over two years.
Airplanes will move. It is the reason they are pushing so hard to get SOC done. The cannot efficiently put the correct aircraft on a given route.

I'm sure the vast majority of them commute to DTW. With that being said, I think DTW and NYC will be neck and neck senority wise--depending on what aircraft are there--in the next two years.

Speaking of A/C, ACL, any new word on what is going where?

New:

We think we know the Douglas jets are going to the middle of our nation. Atlanta and Detroit and Minneapolis basing allows them to hit most of the country. The longer ranged jets are going to the corners. The A330 is coming to Atlanta and 777 will be headed to Detroit to back fill some 747 flying. Already we see those transitions taking place. We are told the SEA 330's will be back filled with a 767 base there. The 737 is a small, niche fleet that fills in as a baby 757 as an -800 in the Delta system. The 737-700 is a low volume hot rod to Central and South America. The A320 seems to work in SLC and maybe from New York to the Caribbean. I hear it can just barely make the west coast against winter winds, so the trans con (w/ red eye flying) will probably remain the back side of the 737-800 operation.

Delta is going to get away from a separate 767 and 767ER. It will all be ER in the future. Lately, it seems a little like the 737-700 should have "ER" in its category :) You get all the night flying, Yellow Fever, Malaria and Dengue garden spots without a relief pilot, a big flight deck, or the biz-e ice cream cart.

Generally, I think we will see Atlanta increase staffing by maybe 1,000'ish. Those seats would come out of Detroit and maybe Cincinnati. Every type will fly through ATL (Elvis sightings are still more common than MD90 sightings, but depending on what the A320 does in SLC, that could change).

When you look at the award, the whole airline likely could bid, or be displaced, to something else except for the protected guys at the very top of each side. Nobody else is matched for relative seniority, or equipment. Generally speaking the F-DAL pilots are waaaay too junior to hold status quo and the F-NWA pilots have some terrific shopping opportunities. It is what it is when a few years of attrition are credited on the front side of a seniority list integration.

I understand why the company does not want to publish the fleet plan, but I sure wish they would so some of us know whether we REALLY need to be looking for other jobs, or houses west of Detroit. This needs to happen during a time of year when there are still green things to see there.

Anyone know the current fleet makeup on the ATL-DTW run and how easy that commute is?

 While at training today for the ER since it is so junior in NYC...(please stay that way). My classmates and I ran into RA at the Woolman Cafeteria so we asked the Commander of Delta Air Forces some interesting and pointed questions.
1.) Sir lot's of domestic flying going to 7ER here in ATL are we leaning toward combining them and will displacements put people into the ER category here?
"We are looking into that." (CVG LAX are examples w/ ATL and NYC inbound IMHO).

2.) Can you tell us how many people have actually signed up for PRIP so far?
" To date, the 17th of June, only 38 have put in for it.We are looking into trying to get more out of it."

3.) How about more flying into Africa...specifically Angola since it is a goldmine with Exxon and fossil fuel exploration?
"As soon as the TSA says yes...we will."

4.) Sir the question on everyone's mind is the F word. Any insight to that?
" We are doing the right things to keep that from happening and are looking into all the options. We are trying to stay staffed for next year and in the same categories."

I forgot to pointedly ask...but I wanted to ask about the C or E series / MD-90's vs. the CRJ-200.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing and you forgot to ask? You're losing your touch there gladio.:D

acl65pilot 06-17-2009 03:14 PM

He would not answer the last question, but since he is here and not in Paris it will not be coming soon.....:)

Also #4 is so carefully put. It means not if we can help it, and do not forget that the F word is an option.
we may eek by but if they tinker even 1% with next summer's flying, hold on.
(IMHO they will)

Thanks for actually asking good questions, most people do not want to.

I agree. Ready for a little more training Bar?
