Jeez. I was told they were 38K each. Guess they went up or the higher value includes the "overall" training cost. |
You forget the need to put the person up in the hotel, per diem when in Canada, salary for them and the instructor, etc. There are a lot more costs than just the check that is written to the sim facility.
Now do this for 300 pilots now and then bring them back later this year. That is a lot of money that does not need to be spent. Figure on 49K conservatively, new uniform, etc. Now bring em back and do a indoc, and an initial 88 on them. it is over 90K for the year. They will not break even on the type for at least three to four years. (for this scenario) |

So you wouldn't anticipate furloughs (if there are any) before March? Is that about right?
It is not what I think but what they think. From the sounds of it, they will not make a decision on furloughs until the end of Q1 09. Of course as with all tings that could change tomorrow. Like the fact that we probably will not have an a/c order for the next few months either. I think that the next two months are going to be very slow on the news lines. We will take a wait and see approach. At a min. the next two months are not going to have many major decisions made There are also some very simple but costly issues that need to be worked out before we move airplanes. That is the major reason we will not see crazy stuff until March/ April next year. (What type of printers do you use for your flight releases?) We may see the 757's from NWA join the fleet before SOC as well. That is something that could happen in the April time frame as well. |
Thanks ACL65,
I agree with you on the furloughs. I keep forgetting that DAL 757/767 domestic is one category. It's makes sense they would be 1:1. I didn't think I had it right. Thanks again for passing along info. I think it helps a lot of us. It helps put me at ease. I can at least prepare. Your insight is invaluable. |
Not a problem. It is why I post what I am allowed to.
Lets all just have a great Christmas, err Holiday Season. We are all employed, and can buy presents for the family. Do what I did, get a family in need and buy presents for them too. It makes you grateful for what you have, because you could be in that position next year. Karma! |
So to clarify(sorry, I'm still digesting this stuff:o)these parked aircraft decisions will be announced soon, or not for at least two months. Thanks.

These are the a/c that will make up the percentage cut that was announced in the investor call
