National Coney Island. The sit down one on the North Side just past the "water feature". Good food, fast and cheap. They serve breakfast all day. They open at like 5am, ready to go...great for those early morning departures. With discount, the breakfast special is $6 and will fill you up.

Wendy's on the B concourse. Fast, hot, friendly, and they get your order right. Paradoxically, its probably the only remaining GOOD Wendy's anywhere.

The Japanese Rice Bowl Place. Next to BK in the food court (as you walk in from security). Good, well, rice bowls. Not cheap, but not expensive.

The REAL Japanese restaurant on the South side, next to McDs is good, but spendy.

The Chilli's is non-fail, but only if you have time to sit around.

Nu

I'm still mourning the loss of Rio Wrap in DTW. What an incredible travesty replacing that with Popeyes.

Now my staple is Max and Erma's. The Santa Fe salad is what's up.... and the tortilla soup is glorious.

And the Popeye's they replaced it with is but a shadow of the one on B in ATL. The DTW Popeye's is much more expensive (even with discount) and they short change you in food. The completely ice the cake its automated ordering, so there is no one to call you "Sugar", "Darlin" or whatever name they think of that I can't put on here.

What I am wondering is, is there any interest in moving away from the green slip process to a system like Jetblue where you get paid straight pay up to 75 hrs (not sure if that is what they do now) and then anything you pick up above 75 is paid at time and a half.

Just wondering...

That's exactly what I did. We have way too many folks parking trips, using the swap board etc. to fly 85-90 hours a month. We need a system in place that pays premium for time over (80 or 75) hours. I do believe that was in the NWA contract.

Look no further than our own back yard. Delta is pulling the same move, decreasing leg room on the CRJ/ERJ to make space for Economy Comfort.
10/20/2011 Press Release:

The new seats will feature pitch of at least 34 inches or more. Delta's standard Economy Class seat pitch is currently 31 inches. In addition to more leg room, customers seated in Economy Comfort will enjoy Priority Boarding.
The product will be installed in the first three-to-five rows of the Economy cabin by removing a negligible number of seats from the current cabin configuration on all of Delta's domestic Boeing 767, 757, 737, MD88, MD90, DC9, Airbus A320 and A319 aircraft, and all two-class regional jets including the CRJ900, CRJ700, E170 and E175 aircraft types by summer 2012.

Bar, in the summer of 2010 DAL & NWA were one, so it was the new DAL hiring. My DOH is Sep 2010. I remember BB telling us in indoc that there were 5,500 qualified applicants, but there were probably at least 12,000 who applied.

Flew with a lead LCA a couple of days ago and he reiterated that the company will have to hire soon, with the number of guys who could suddenly retire between 60-65, and the new rest rules that will take effect. Commuted home yesterday with a captain who lives in Ft Worth who plans on retiring at age 60, which is pretty soon for him.

I think the company would like a new contract hammered out for planning purposes before going bonkers with hiring. Plus this situation with American should prove interesting.

Thank you for your good report. Your post explains it, there were 12,000+ "applicants" and 5,500 "qualified applicants."

As hard as this company searches for revenue, I am surprised we don't charge a fee like several of our competitors do. If we charged what FedEx does, we'd have about another $2.5 million.

I'll have to remember that one...SMEG head. Concur!

NWA paid 1.5X for anything over 80. We also did not differentiate between "pay" and "credit"; an hour was an hour, no matter how you got it.

Open time was assigned first to guys who would not break 80 with the assignment, then to guys who would. Each group was handled in seniority order. I preferred that system because it was very straightforward. There were no back-room horse trades or secret handshakes involved.

DAL had a 75 hr max in the 80s. Anything over 75 went into "bow-wave" which carried into next month and thus decreased the flying on your schedule for that month. There was no pay without credit either - for anything. But that has degenerated into what we have today. Flex time came about to allow the company to change the monthly max as the system flying changed throughout the year. Somewhere in there we added bank time. Etc, etc.

FTB,

I'm fairly certain the Online Cafe is just down from Mc D's. It's almost directly across from the Westin. I recommend the Online Cafe as well. The employee menu has about 7 meal options. I like the tilapia with coleslaw & fries or rice. Lots of good food for $7.50. Plus you can call ahead to order & then pick it up.
