I'm on a 3 day right now worth a raw of 31. It's possible for me to do a 4 day and a short call and still be number 1 to go out while other pilots have not flown a single day. It is very possible for me to work 14-15 days of 18 reserve days this month while senior pilots work 0. How is this a better system? FWIW, I thought there should have been a better way to assign short calls, reserves should be paid the same as lineholders per trip, and the reserve guarantee should be ALV. I never complained about how trips were assigned. I am not a fan at all of the new system.

According to the new LGA terminal map on Delta.com we are only picking up 10 new gates in the Usair terminal is this correct, I thought we were getting 16 new gates.

No matter what happens, some people will hate it and others will like it. You hand a pilot a bag of money, and he complains how heavy it is. The reserve system isn't perfect, but I think this is a step in the right direction. A system that doesn't account for seniority is flawed. By the way, I am junior too. Here are some other complaints I have:

Senior people make more money than me, thats not fair.

Senior people get more vacation than me, thats not fair.

Senior guys get the trips I wanted, thats not fair.

We are in a seniority driven profession. That is how it's been since this industry started. The new system brings back some seniority to reserve. This is a good thing. This was fixed outside of section 6 negotiations. I think the new bucket system is a good idea and a good improvement that was relatively easy to implement.

There are more things that need fixing on reserve. You are right, higher reserve guarantee and definitely the same credit per trip lineholder vs reserve. But stop complaining about being able to exercise a little seniority on reserve!!!

Default More early outs on the way?

Delta says unit revenue up, may cut jobs | Reuters

"We're going to be looking at other ways to reduce headcount and we are considering and I'd expect we'll probably be announcing soon another early retirement opportunity for our employees," Bastian added.

It is being done in phases (2 slot tranches). We're getting more gates.

That's exactly my point GS. I know reserve sucks, especially for 4 or 5 years. This quest for equality by junior folks is getting old though. Should we do away with the years of service pay? How about every FO regardless of aircraft or years of service gets paid the same? That's equal. Maybe everyone gets 2 weekends off a month? That's fair. Im sure scheduling could come up with a system where senior and junior pilots fly approximately the same number of days per month. That's fair.

The seniority based system has nothing to do with what's fair. Come summer time, all reserves will be abused equally.

As the CX and Emirates pilots how that works. They get to request days off, but they do not need to be honored. Seniority, though not portable, is a better way to moderate things like reserve and bidding.

Yeah, YS on X days is pretty worthless unless it gets you to the ALV and done for the month.

It can also come in handy if your mother-in-law is visiting.

This way, seniority would only ensure days off and everyone would enjoy the same trip quality.
We could go to the system the FAs have. Everyone has to do 3-6 A days. That would make it really fair!

Do I really have to put on the sarcasm tag?
