They also have a history of taking hostages. I believe we have some "49ers" from the last contract who are regulars right here on APC.
We need to be careful how we approach the trip parking issue. It is eerily similar to the "no overtime for straight pay" campaign that got the 49ers in trouble. Trip parking is clearly a contract violation but since it has been sanctioned by DALPA it would now be considered status quo. Once the contract is open, posting a picture of Delta pilots stabbing each other would be harassment and illegal concerted activity. I'm very glad to hear that DALPA is going to do something about trip parking before the Section 6 negotiations begin. We don't want to be negotiating for hostages like last time. acl's idea of a bank solution would be fine. It solves the problem of guys unable to fill up because their category only has 10 day trips. You could also use a "rolling average" of credit hours over 90 or 180 days. Whatever. There are fixes available but we have to stop the 100+ hour months that are being built by the trip parking people. That is hurting all of us. Especially when it is so prevalent in the top paying categories. ALV+15 is in there for a reason. The contract definitely protects us from ourselves as well as from management. Let's respect the contract. If its true "a fix is in the works" then DALPA deserves kudos. Trip parking was addressed by the MEC and agreed by the Company. Implementation of the software changes is supposed to happen late summer (yeah, I noticed that too) but the reasoning sounds logical, there are other coding issues that the software folks have on their list ahead of this. It was mentioned at the C44 meeting that ALPA should consider a letter to the Delta pilots discouraging the practice. On the basis of that letter, some pilots would refuse to participate in having trips parked on their lines. The Reps seemed interested in doing this and clearly everyone feels a pilot should get the flying their seniority allows. Seniority trumps folks figuring out a way to rig the system. |

Good post, excellent point. Let me throw out an (unofficial, I'm nobody) update.

Excellent update. I confess to not attending the LEC meeting. My bad. Did they say what the fix will be? |
Latest news is no hiring for now, although ready to hire in an instant if necessary. More 330 time to ATL, but flown by other bases. DC-9 to stay til end of year, because aircraft are paid for, all they pay for is insurance. Caveat that with as they come up for maintenance checks they will be parked one by one. MEM DC-9 to close in March? bid.

Excellent update. I confess to not attending the LEC meeting. My bad. Did they say what the fix will be? It was discussed at the C44 meeting. I mentioned it on here last night. It was a very well attended meeting. Standing room only. I was happy to see the strong turnout. Two negotiators were there, One EA, The Chairman, and a few others as well. The did not speak, but wanted to attend their councils meeting. Also had the SLC FO rep there watching. Frankly the turnout was very impressive. It was a great meeting and most of the time was for Q and A as well as direct input to the reps. Most impressive. (BTW the Reps were writing the direction given down) |

0. I flew 9 days in a row on reserve. Back to back to back 3 days worth a credit of 44 hours. All 3 trips were 2 duty periods with a 30 hour sit somewhere. The fact that I can work 9 days straight without a 30/7 problem shows you how inefficient our trips are.

Yeah, I am hearing the word years being used wrt to hiring. Makes sense if you want to shrink or stagnate before a transaction.

This is exactly why we need to ditch the min per duty period. Something has to be done to change that, & the difference in credit a reserve receives vs a line holder. Once a reserve is on a trip, he should be paid the same as a line holder. I'd even be willing to take a soft pay for calendar day layovers. If I get in on the 21st & don't leave until the 23rd, I should get pay. Make it 4.75 hours or something higher.
Min day, not a duty period average, Reserve trip guarantee once they report and it is the same as a line holder. Must stand strong on our 2 for 1 and 3.5 for 1 rigs. Improvements only, no softening of them. Many max duty day issues will be covered by reroute, which is something that was pointed out yesterday by a very intelligent first officer who knows the scheduling system quite well. |
Johnso, we are in a period of consolidation and most likely would either have overlap that would need to be divested or a pilot group with pilots on the street. It is smart not to hire then have to dump bodies. Sucks, but that is the realty we live in.
