Same credit would certainly change the playing field, imo for the better.

Right now I am about midway up the list in my ATL category. In five years........I will be about midway up the list of my ATL category.

That was depressing.

Why did you have to show me that?

DALPA: Pilots should get paid more for short call!
Company: It used to be pilots were on short call every day 24 hours a day. You complained about that and we gave you a long call system. Huge win for you! Now you want more pay for the 6 short call days left?

Here we go again. Pathetic.

STOP DOING MANAGEMENT'S JOB! I'm paying DALPA to man up and negotiate, heatedly if necessary, to improve our contract--not roll over and whine about why you can't deliver.

Are you suggesting we should refrain from seeking improvements so we don't annoy the company? That this contract must be cost-neutral? Are you saying DALPA won't ask for anything the company won't like? That's what it sounds like to me.

This is what we have to look forward to: excuse after excuse from DALPA rationalizing why they are powerless to negotiate the improvement we have demanded.

DALPA folks have been collecting FPL and some very cushy bennies. Now it's time to produce. You WILL produce...or you will be replaced.

Well those two are money issues, and the seniority is just a computer change.

What do you feel the buckets should be set at then? I feel that 80 is reasonable. Much lower than that, and it creates too many buckets and seniority is devalued (especially in summer when we are flying more). Don't forget, we are getting 5 points for each short call too.

There will be quite a difference between categories too. The bigger category you are in, I predict, the more you will be able to exercise seniority. In a small category, there just aren't going to be enough bodies to populate each day of availability, bucket etc...

We will see how it plays out, but I think that a bucket of 80 is reasonable.

I can understand 80 is something you see as reasonable but what is your category?

For me, 80 is too high for mine. What would I like to see? A calculation that is category contingent on a monthly basis. Some months a 4 day and SC imho should put one in bucket 2, maybe not in others. Which that'd be laughable on the 777.

So category contingent, not just using two categories for the entire fleet.
fwiw, looking just one the last day of the month's availability list in my category 63% of the pilots ended with a raw of less than 80 and that includes all of the pilots who had vacations and mil that added to their raw. 32% ended less than 50 and 11% of the group ended flying one 3 day or less. My bet barring an IROP will be 11% end with 0 flying in February.
According to ALPA the reason 80 was selected was because it'd be equal to five or six days of flying and a short call. My problem with that is five or six days of flying and a short call is 60-71 points, not 80. And again at 71 points that pilot is ahead of someone with 0, so if they get a 4 day they're going to end up with 115 before they get the "reprieve" the buckets are supposed to give and the pilot with 0 flies. That to me is too large a difference on a NB domestic category.

I'm sure if I was in your shoes I would feel the same way. That being said, with the current system, when summer comes all the reserve folks will be flying. When things are slow (right now) some folks are not going to fly. Imo, the shared distribution of flying gave us a reserve system that did not honor seniority. Many folks have been complaining for years that reserve did not honor seniority, the survey confirmed that. This new system does a pretty good job of that.

I realize many folks have been sitting reserve for 5 years now and I know that sucks. To keep it in perspective, many late 2000 + 2001 hires (who are hardly senior to 07 folks) were furloughed for 5 years. This job has been a kick in the coins for lots of people, hopefully you'll be that senior reserve person in the next 12-18 months!

You can be very senior in this company and still be a plug in a category. Right now, I'm pretty senior as it is when it comes to reserve on my category. Getting more senior wouldn't give me any different schedule and it'd only change the RUO some. I don't agree with this in principle anymore than I agree with giving line holders ALV and the month off because of seniority.

I'd rather see a good QOL obtainable on reserve at 80% seniority in category rather than requiring one to hit 60% seniority.

This way one can move up and have a QOL throughout their time here rather than just when they hit the top 5% and can finally say "I'm finally senior today." Kind of the same as Timbo's argument that it'd be better to pay high early and decrease with time. Not saying inverse scheduling with seniority but it makes a point, why make this a ladder when it could be stairs? Jetway stairs... to an 88.

I agree. Negotiations were never meant to be easy or comfortable.

YES...PLEASE DO!!!

You can't crash half a cockpit, and you will also be
spending a lot of time doing post-incident paperwork
and interviews. Voice your professional concerns and
get it on the tape. Your comment indicates you know
