It's a good thing he wasn't taxiing fast.
At 88mph, you would've seen something really cool when all those gigawatts hit that leading edge... |

He was "undisposed" during the landing.
I.e., being "attended to" by a couple of SA flight attendants. :D Can you blame him? |

It was definitely an MD 90. I was supposed to take the airplane when it came in. That didn't happen! Had to change flight to an 88. Four hours late. By the way, was anyone else in DTW last night? the ramps(and taxi ways) were basically ice skating rinks. A Delta flight came into the ramp to park, and I heard ramp tower say "Delta ____ You may want to get towed in, I see you sliding around out there" And the Delta flight replied that they were single engine so that was why they were sliding sideways! yikes. The ice was the worst on the gate side of the zipper line. It took us 4 tries, twice with chains on the tug to get pushed back.
It was a bit slippery - I could see the ramps were icy from the bus from the parking lot. As we were pushing back, the Captain said, "I think we'll start both, looks a bit dicey out there". Ya think? No disagreement from me! |

An 88 left the paved surface in cancun a couple weeks ago too.

FTB,
I do not think the junior guys will hosed with this new reserve system and this is why. 1. When I was hired the reserve system was heavily weighted to the senior guys - to the point the junior guys would max out and we would be short at the end of the month. This required more reserves and the company did not like this system. 2. The sytem that is now ending ending spread the flying out much more evenly. The company liked it because all other things being equal this required less pilots. Senior guys didn't think it weighed seniority enough. 3. Now we have the new reserve system. Junior guys are worried that they will again do all the flying while the senior guys sit at home. I don't think this will happen for the simple reason that the company desires to spread the flying as evenly as possible. If, in fact, junior guys start flying a disproportionate amount wouldn't the company just fine tune the RAW buckets? I thought the 80 RAW point bucket was variable and could be adjusted each month - is this not correct? We can all speculate how this might play out but we really won't know for sure until we see this play out - probably through a whole annual cycle covering both the busy and slow months. Scoop - My 2 Cents. A senior reserve pilot could expect to fly even less than some junior reserves here report (e.g. pretty little), but that's not good enough? Yes, the bucket sizes need to be smaller, and the number of buckets greater. The company would easily adjust to smaller buckets; it's DALPA that's going to want to keep them as big as they are. |

Why on earth would anyone even consider a single engine taxi in these conditions? I'm am no Chuck Yeager by an means, but seriously.
