I think you're right. Two things that people have missed. If I'm a junior pilot with 4 days of availability and a senior pilot (who doesn't want to fly) with 3 days availability are both sitting in the same bucket - a 3 day trip pops up. The senior guy gets the trip - doesn't matter whether he wants to fly or not, it doesn't matter if the junior guy wants to fly,the trips still go in days of availability. (from my reading of the LOA).

Second, the buckets can be varied. I'm sure scheduling isn't going to want to end up with some guys reaching ALV (junior) while others (senior) aren't flying. I'm guessing the buckets will be moved around.

I agree with your last paragraph completely. They won't. I guess I'm pushing back not only because of how high the raw buckets were placed but also because of a response I got saying the purpose is to bring seniority back and the way I read it if that means some don't fly so be it. That's fine, but a better system is having half the pilots fly very little. A lower bucket score just seems a better system that would prevent lopsided raws... for the same amount of $.

Youre right, trips are assigned on the old system and new one by days of availability. 3-days go to 3-days available guys until they have to go to 4-day guy, no matter seniority or score, thus saving 4-day pilots for a potential 4-day pop up. I don't think that'll go away.

But, as far as wanting to fly I've got to check how buckets come into play. Can you go from bucket 2 and pick up a trip with guys still in bucket 1? Can you jump down and pick up 3-day trips with 5 days available? I didn't see that mentioned one way or another, just that YS would go in seniority order regardless of raw. I'm going to need to look.

No matter what, if a pilot wants to fly have at it no matter where you are imho. And making that seniority based is the most fair to me.

There is going to be some adjustments and I'm sure some unintended consequences. Sounds like FTB thinks there will be one with the bucket sizes - there may, he just liked to use his calculator and add up numbers doesn't he? :D

FTB loves calculators because math hates FTB. But I'm out to warn the masses.

Although I'm only talking to the middle of the 30% that sit reserve. But we could all commute and we could all sit reserve, that's the rule right?

Looks like a 757 went for a sleigh ride in DTW. Luckily, sounds like no damage or injuries:

One would think CNN (not just them but others too) could find a newer picture for their articles about us:rolleyes:

Anyone heard where on the airport it happened? Article reads like maybe 21L and Juilet.

This is my favorite comment posted after the story. This guy obviously has his stuff together.

I'll bet the reason it slid off the runway was it wasn't able to stop fast enough. The inertia of the plane was greater than the friction from the tire/brakes friction over the length of available runway.

Eventually it'll be on this site I'm sure,

The Aviation Herald

if you haven't been there go, it's interesting especially when you read about incidents with Delta jets.

I do too. I don't know how ftb got so allergic to RAW buckets, which are but a step in the right direction in fixing our reserve system. I think the problem is that he's only gotten here after reserve became purely awful, and after we all became non-scheduled lineholders. So he's focusing too much on making sure everyone suffers evenly, as opposed to asking how we can diminish the suffering.

I agree, the buckets are an improvement. 80 may seem high, if lowered dramatically though would not be much of an improvement from the old system imo. As an 11 year FO who can bid some quality lines, it's nice to be able to bid down to reserve every once in a while to use my seniority.

Second phase of LOA29 will be somewhere starting May... SC assignment will also be weighted by seniority as well. Begin by inverse assignment of SC, it will be spread more evenly among junior pilots until senior pilots get assigned SC. Theoretically, ie junior guys may sit 4 SC and senior guys sit only 2 SC... I don't remember the exact formula, but it's supposed to be less "random". Just passing on what i hear.

I think you are in the minority. There were quite junior guys in my category who did not fly at all last month on reserve.

If someone's able to go all all month without flying, it absolutely should be the senior guy (if he/she wants it).

On the off chance someone gets to sit all month, it should be the senior guy.

Nicely done Mr. Bacon, couldn't agree more!
