A fix that may work is the bow wave, where guys could fly to ALV+20 six months a year but those extra five hours had to be banked and not paid. Max in your bank for this purpose would be 30 hrs in a year or 40 hrs total. Ergo, you would have to use 20 hrs in the bank to get the full effect of six months of ALV+20 the following year. It would allow guys on jets with longer trips to pick up that trip, but in a different month use their bank to fill up instead of flying. Capping the bank for these purposes means you limit the ability and the effect on staffing since the time would have to be banked then used. If it was not used the bank limits forbid future pickups to ALV+20 because the extra time could not be added to the bank.
It is the best staffing neutral solution I have come up with that meets the needs of guys that want to pick up time but can't due to rotation length. Thoughts? |

I think I'm the first guy in my category to reach bucket 2 with this new reserve system. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I would take last month's reserve system in a heartbeat.

Hmm, one more point. Last 3 Capts I flew with were happy with 20% and "scope just isn't that critical to my stage in life". Getting a bit bummed that scope may be a complete FO cause...
I fly with my share of DALPA volunteers as well. |

It just occurred to me that I might have met Ferd the morning of the 7th going to work, before boarding. PM me if that was you, always need to figure out the local guys!
Sorry I missed you. APC meetings are fun:D Ferd |
....the age old playbooks of failed management teams that consistently run great airlines into the ground... Flunky: "Here it is, Sir." (blows dust off cover) CEO: "Hmmm...the trusty #25Z double-reverse will do nicely." Flunky: "But Sir, that one always leads to a disaster!" CEO: "For whom? Not us, Har Har!" Flunky: "Oh, I get it! Then your successor will be in the mess." CEO: "Not if he follows the Age Old Playbook." |

In that case, we should be lucky to take a 10% pay cut, anything even remotely higher like a 2% pay cut is a tremendous win on our part. Holy cow, could you imagine a 2% pay increase? We'd be lucky to get that, I guess we could give up scope or something. Really I think getting everyone keyed up for furloughs is wise especially given the pending retirements, additional MD-90s, wishy wash plans for the DC-9, 100 new 739s and an unknown situation with AMR in chapter 11.

BTW, just mention retirement healthcare benefits isn't critical to your stage in life. No wait, better yet, AF/KLM and Alaska scope giveaways don't matter to you either. Something just to goad them.
Yes, sometimes one has to http://static.rcgroups.net/forums/at...g?d=1231817562 in order to get the http://www.screenhog.com/sketch/LightbulbIdea.jpg to come on. |
