Ah, I see what you meant. Yes, 15K of jobs losses is significant. I didn't realize AMR was that unionized. I suspect that front-line employees will be cut at a different percentage than the rest of the airline. (ie, depends on efficiencies on work rules, etc.

People who were at Delta in 2005 can fill in those details about the percentage cuts by pilots/FAs vs the rest of the company.

My other point was that even though they lost money, their cash position didn't go down. You can lose money but keep your cash position up by moving money around accounts, etc. That must be what they are doing. It would be more detail than needed for the L&G thread, but they need a certain amount of cash to keep the operation running (to pay for fuel, CC hold backs, pay employees, etc)

I think this afternoon we'll see what is going to be demanded of labor.

Agree,

Looks like the Tulsa and DFW MRO operation will be the first target.
I've heard the RR engine overhaul JV might be gone.

Working with the Delta iCrew/eCrew system had me thinking that the airlines were not that interested in technology. I mean the tech in the airplanes is old so why should the computer tech be that new. It is an old slow system, but it works and it isn't THAT bad.

Well that is what I used to think. Then I had a friend over the other day and he showed me the SWA interface. HOLY CRAP what a nice slick system. What is the one at UCAL, USAir, and the old NW system like? I heard about text messages and such. I do realize looking at the SWA stuff that it was built to keep them even more efficient. The trading trips and moving things around enables them more freedom to pick up trips thus requiring less reserves on hand and thus not as much overhead, but it is a nice system. I am not advocating changing to that system but it would be nice to have a modern GUI than the crap we have now. Course I don't want to have to give anything up for it!

Yep, A SWA friend showed me the App THAT THE UNION CREATED to look at their schedule, see who they are flying with, see where they layover.

It was very slick - he also showed me the web interface for trip trading. Wow. Makes iCrew and our method look like something the dinosaurs thought up and cavemen implemented.

while at COEX we used CAL's system and at the time i thought man this is bad but it was far better than what have imho. The stuff you could do on your own without talking to scheduling first was awesome compared to what we have now imho. trip trading, base trading, swaps, etc all by the click of a button. Also there was an hour a day that reserves could go into the open time window the day prior (before scheduling started handing out assignments) and select what they wanted. this enabled us to have more control over being on reserve instead of our system of waiting on the hammer to fall....

You do have one, it's your name, first, last, separated by a period.

You probably haven't ever used it and if you try, you'll be in PW change hell...

Exactly, that's why I'm never going to use it. I've already got two email accounts, DL scheds knows what one of them is, I don't need any more 'help' from them!

Oh, btw, I just looked and the March trips are now in DBMS Open Time. Pretty much the same trips as Feb. for my category. Nothing exciting...like Manilla!

But as you see, those are some big numbers. I just can't see the company giving us that. But I'm just one guy - the contract survey showed what the pilots wanted. It's up to the neg committee to try and get that.

It boggles my mind why some think the numbers are big and scary. Have folks forgotten the big numbers that were given up post BK? Managements bonus $$$ numbers are big. So are bag fees, fares, and ancillary revenues. Why do many think a 2nd or 3rd year F/O making $150K is huge? They aren't 26-year old drug reps (like a cousin making $150) 4 years out of college. Southwest numbers aren't BIG, but they do what dalpa does.

I'm just waiting for slowplay to get back on FPL so he can come back on here and tell us why we're chest thumping and whining.

There are some definite reasons why he's not for publishing the FPL data...

You realize there are two components to what you're talking about, right? One is the interface (ours sucks, no doubt about it). The other is workrules. Most of what you describe above, IMO is bad for pilots in the aggregate.

Reserves going in to pick up? What a great idea!

Unless you're a lineholder trying to WS...

DAL is in the process of writing a totally scheduling backbone. Because of this, they are only going to dump so much money in to DBMS. I have not checked on the progress of the system development, but we should be under two years until roll out by now.

CAL has a similar deal. There, the reserves can pickup/ws a trip the day prior to it reporting. If they go on call say on Monday, they can pick a trip up 24 hrs prior to report.
