I agree with Superpilot that the Cal system was better with regard to usability and it was "realtime." Where we disagree is in the fact that their work rule integration stinks so I'm not sure what he's raving about. We already have the ability for a reserve to pickup a trip...it's called a YS and when used properly it gives reserves like myself a lot of control.

I fear that we can tinker with our reserve system to the point where we ruin what is actually a pretty pilot friendly system. Proceed with caution.

this ^^^^^^^^^^

btw, not raving at all, just comparing their system as far as usability goes to ours. Their system has more functions and enabled us to do more on our own without scheduling being involved with everything. Click and go for alot of functions under cals system.

There will be quite a difference between categories too. The bigger category you are in, I predict, the more you will be able to exercise seniority. In a small category, there just aren't going to be enough bodies to populate each day of availability, bucket etc...

We will see how it plays out, but I think that a bucket of 80 is reasonable.

Do away with buckets.. period. Then you have totally restored seniority to reserve. Company's problem. Not ours to ensure manning is proper to cover the flying with pilots that operate in a seniority based system.

He can't change it.

What you can do is just call them a half hour or so before scheduled report and tell them you are enroute and will be there 30 minutes late. They don't really care as long as you call and keep their alarms from going off. Just be sure you make it in time to get your boarding pass and make pushback. Not a problem with a Comair flight but you might need that 90 minutes for some off-line deadheads on some non-Delta outfit. That's why its in the contract that way.

Thanks for the help guys!

A bit of an oxymoron: cover flying...with (senior) pilots that don't fly. :D

Good point. In that case, of course, you're not doing anything very different than our system, except for the [deleted] interface.

Unless of course, you mean reserve pilots should be able to pick up on a first come, first serve basis, in which case I couldn't disagree more.

Improve the interface. Improve Reserve. But don't make it like CAL, because two wrongs sure don't make a right.

Our current system lets reserve pilots pick trips in open time the day prior. We just never have more than a trip or 2 per day. Last summer, I was bidding trips via yellow slip the night prior.

Just finishing up a 5-day trip tonight... and the rumors are all over the place about Delta possibly keeping the DC-9's through the end of 2013 now. I know how rumors can get out of hand and I don't put much credence in them. But I'm curious if anyone here has heard this one and/or knows anything about it...

Disregard, it's been covered...

You know you can do that on the DAL system, right? Just checking, as I have had some success in CVG as a very junior guy in a small category and in ATL as an even more junior guy (relatively) in having my preferences honored. Granted, it's often a toss up between the rotten apple trip and the rotten banana trip but at least it's a choice, kind of...
