Guys,

Here is another category:

12FEB2012 ATL73N B

The following is a list of Pilots from senior to Junior:

Seniority Number/ RAW/ SC Credit

10,XXX/ 73/ 3
10,XXX/ 55/ 2
10,XXX/ 10/ 2
11,XXX/ 13/ 1
11,XXX/ 21/ 1
11,XXX/ 5/ 1

I think you would be hard pressed to show the junior guy with the lowest RAW and only 1 S/C has been hosed. Once again exactly the opposite of what we were told would happen.

Hey - maybe there is not enough data and we should wait a few months? Or we can pass judgement now and say the senior guys are getting hosed.

i have 4 this month already, 3 this week and guys junior dont have that many. this system has no transparency or rime or reason. I'm only good for 2 days while others are good for 3+ days with less raw and less sc's....

Super,

I don't believe the SC bidding has started yet. But it appears the senior guys are getting screwed in your category also.

it hasnt started but the system sucks and for us commuters, 3 sc's in a week and not consecutive is bs. they dont have any flying or adequate reserves so the same guys are getting sc over and over because they've only got 3 reserves available....

We both have said give it a chance - if it is unfair lets fix it, but guys want to call it a failure now and point to the small but vocal group on this forum as proof that it is unfair. Well lets look at a couple of things:

1. I looked at the RAW scores of a few junior categories and am not seeing the "unfairness" that I thought would be overwhelming.

11Feb2012 ATL 88B RAWs:

34
71
48
18
38
105

Well obviously the junior guy got hosed at 105 - wrong the 105 RAW is the most senior pilot on the list for today. My only guess would be he wanted to get into group 2 and have the 2nd half of the month off - who knows. Also the raw of 18 is the most junior guy for today.

This is the exact opposite of what we were told was going to happen.

2. I looked at the DALPA forum for the expected posting about the junior guys are getting hosed on reserve. Could not find it because most guys there, perhaps due to a more even distribution throughout the seniority list, had nothing but praise for the new system with kudos to the SOT.

So I will say again - lets give it a few months and see how it actually works before we deem it a failure. If after a few months it can be confirmed to unfairly burden the junior guys then absolutely we should fix it. But lets make sure its broke before we fix it.

I think this is about right. Being in probably the smallest category in the company (about 20 fo's in MEMDC9B) and only about 65% everybody is getting hit randomly just as before. In a much larger category sure the senior guy might have a buffer. The thing I like is that I feel like there is more transparency in how we are placed and assigned. This is the most important thing to me. If its my time to work so be it I'll grab my things and head that way. However I hate feeling like a scheduler assigned something willy nilly like.

Ive only got 1 short call this month, but its probably because I was out on 2-3 day trips already and I wasn't available to get hit with one because most of the other reserves already have 3-4. I guess it seems ok for some and bad for others.
Of course the old rsv system made a bunch of guys mad too. Guess it goes back to you can't make us all happy.

Note: I'll probably have a much different view when I go back to commuting this summer.

Scoop, look at Monday's and Tuesday's and not Saturdays. With the new reserve requirement rules weekends are understaffed. Any pilot, ymmv, that is available on a weekend will fly on or into the weekend. Some of the most senior pilots bid for 9 days consecutively to get long stretches off. That's obviously a choice or horrible bidding.

Now when you get to the weekends off crowd, that's not the junior reserve pilots but the system works like they are for weeks at a time. Look at Mondays and you'll see nobody is in bucket 2. That means the same pilots are up again with no flying in open time for some time or until they hit bucket 2.

I agree, this will get sorted out one way or another depending on how it plays out.

When SC assignments become predictable, it'll be nice. It absolutely is at the discretion of the scheduler because many a time I've had to call and say the 0500 I assigned was a bit off from the PM I requested. They change it. You know it's arbitrary when you see the first 10 get SC one clear day and then 3 the next day, sometimes it's just the first guy gets 0300 and works upwards from there and sometimes it's all over the place as in the PCS requests were honored.

It should not be done by hand and I'm sure schedulers would agree with us on that.

Again look at Monday's and Tuesday's and not just the weekends. You'll see the disparity there especially when you see available reserves on a weekend down to 0 and then back up to 60 to 80 on Monday.
