Timbo (using my phone to type) please read your PWA, Section 1, Definitions 40 D. The 255 limit is a hard cap on SEVENTY to 76 seat RJ's. Management is already maxed at the cap. To add a new 76 seater they would have to park a 70 seater. They don't want to comply (allegedly). If the mainline fleet shrinks, it would have no effect on the 255, or 153, or whatever number they come up with.
Thanks for trying to clear that up VPR and BB.
BB, your very last sentence is the part that bothers me...
You KNOW those 747's are not long for this world if the price of oil keeps going up up up. So in the next two years or so, let's say they do increase the mainline fleet size, (add 717's, maybe some of AA's used 777's) and work another LOA to get ever more 76 seat RJ's...and THEN they start parking the 747's...yet the RJ fleet remains, in greater numbers than before.
Yeah...that's the ticket.

Quick question for the all knowing thread:
I'm waiting for OE to be assigned. Can the planners assign OE to me on a day off? I'm hoping to attend a fundraiser on an off day next month, and don't want to buy 2 $150 tickets if I may not even be able to go. The day in question is just a regular off day, not a golden day.
Thanks in advance

I would call them right now, and tell them NOT to schedule you on that day. OR maybe you can move your X days to cover it, but still, call them and tell them you NEED to be OFF that day.

wow, this thread is getting really boring.
Latest from cpo in the northeast...
777 order in the low teens
717s, # to be determined
20% pay raise, quick contract with few rules changes (hence the willingness to work over the last 2 years for loas)
increased number of 76 seaters
60-65 medical benefits to encourage retirements
nothing stated regarding hiring
discuss...(already a huge no vote from me on scope alone)

They can offer all the health care for retirees they want (I assume you are thinking that it would get more early retirees) but we shouldn't pay one... red... cent.... for it, because in the end, it will not amount to a hill of beans and it certainly won't entice anybody that wasn't already planning on going to go.. naaah that is a myth.

And they want us to permanently sell even more of our jobs to get this?
No. Deal.

Back to the original rumor, or should I say the most recent one:
This does not make sense to me - if we were going to get some 717's and 777s I would think we would need more pilots. Now we might be overmanned now (for winter) but if we bought 777s and 717s would we still be fat - especially in the summer?
Why sweeten the retirement when getting new aircraft?
Scoop

You see that nugget in the opener called a production balance? That would mean we grow they grow, we shrink they shrink, no more once delivered never removed. (At least that is how I read what a production balance wrt to DCI flying would be done)
More 777's? Why not?
Management wants scope relief to outsource more flying. The 717 does not do anything for MD88A's or above. To get a scope sale, management has to throw something out there to get Captains excited ... hence 777, 747, Bristol Brabazons or whatever stirs their fancy.

Bristol Brabazon.... I see you are a fellow airplane porn addict. There is help, unless you are like me and into that freaky Russian $£|#.

Hope you responded in kind.
Real simple, Section 1 fixed, work rules bettered, and we all want pay, but it matters little if the scope or work rules are diluted.
Also, ooh more WB jet promises during negotiations.
On that, a definite No from Mr ACL.
