I'll watch Richard Anderson's presentation if you promise me he mentioned me by name.

Because frankly, I'm getting tired of this notion that just because you rarely contribute that you shouldn't be highly praised.

Celebrations are in order! As airline pilots we're close to breaking into the top half of the list. We even beat out the sewage plant operator.

Then you just need ONE pool to handle all the (say) 73n reserves, you can get away with a lot less reserves in total. Not enough guys to handle the weekend reserve in ATL/SLC/LAX? No problem, we're 30% overstaffed in NYC, we'll just farm out everything we can in time to those reserve guys, who will be willing to take anything they can get that doesn't start in NYC and will get themselves there for free...

The IMMEDIATE result would be:
1. sortie ho pilots would grab all they could, standard, with no thought towards the overall effect.
2. reserves would drop. 15% pilot manning cut BAM. At today's retirement forecasts, this results in either furloughs or another 6 years stagnation.
3. All bases except the fat one would NOT have enough manning to do swaps and drops, and quality of life for everyone would immediately drop.

ABSOLUTE WORST THING that could happen.
Remember: your goal is MORE pilots, and BETTER quality of life. We already know from our DCI discussions that there will always be some pilot willing to undercut everyone else, and work longer/cheaper to the point of poverty, to make themselves some extra coin. It's the exact same thing we complain about mgt doing-- greedy moves to boost THIS quarters profits at the expense of the long term. Don't be that guy...

+1. You pretty much nailed it. This is the biggest issue with out of base sharing. My previous carrier did this and exactly what you describe is exactly what happened. We don't want to go there. Bid the base you want to fly in. Move there when you can hold it.

DL/NW guys, what's the avrg basic empty weight and the seating capacity of your 320-319s.

Thank you

Reading the last 6 pages and not many comments on the loss of flying for our pilots and flight attendants by the DOWN SIZE plan on the BOS-LGA shuttle. I know DCA-LGA has been this way for a couple years now, but the transition is complete with this wholesale giveaway. Once a cash machine, due to many reasons, Acela probably the least, no MARKETING, IMO the primary, we have lost a jewel, and 40% fewer seats to commute.

And don't discount the effect of Go To Meeting dot com! Now, instead of flying into NYC for a meeting, people can -log on- from anywhere. Also, as previously stated, many of the 'high rollers' (previously known as our HVC's) are fed up with the TSA and are now flying Delta Elite, or on their own private jets.
