In the interest of accuaracy, I wanted to re-post this exchange from a few weeks ago due to what was just published by the MEC:

Here is a paragraph from the MEC's latest "Touch and Go":

If the committee eventually reaches an overall tentative agreement with Delta management, it will be presented to the MEC for deliberation and a ratification vote. If ratified by the MEC, it will then be presented to the Delta pilots for membership ratification.

Carl,

Again, you don't know how this works. The voting members of the MEC are made up of the Captain and First O reps of each LEC. That means that the Captain rep for the LEC for DTW is the voting member of the MEC. They are the VOTING members of the MEC.

One more time. The MEC chairman, vice chair, sec-treas, negotiating chair do not get votes. The LEC reps, from each domicile, the guys you vote for, who answer your calls and e-mails, and represent you in the chief Pilot's office when you're in trouble, who make up the VOTING members of the MEC, vote as to whether or not to put a TA out for a vote.

Are the Chairman and Vice Chairman of each LEC part of the MEC?

You betcha. The voting members. No one else has a vote, unless there are more than two members of an LEC.

What is your agenda here? Some nebulous conspiracy of a nameless, faceless MEC who wants to screw us for some benefit to themselves?

Why do you keep trying to sell your DPA crap over here? It was just starting to get fun again.

Sorry 80 and FTB, all you other guys. You make this a really entertaining diversion. I shouldn't even bother reading this any more, it's lost it's enjoyment.

Excellent. Now what about my post below was wrong regarding my use of the word ratify?

Carl

The MEC (collectively the various base LEC status reps) approve what the Negotiating Committee brings back. If it is approved by the MEC, then it is passed on to the pilots who choose to ratify.

From the Delta Pilot's Policy Manual, page 54:

Collective bargaining agreements that have been approved by the MEC and result from negotiations undertaken pursuant to both Section 28 of the PWA and Section 6 of the Railway Labor Act that both resolve all Section 6 issues and conclude Section 6 negotiations shall be subject to membership ratification. All other agreements shall be subject only to MEC ratification unless the MEC determines that an agreement should be subject to membership ratification.

This argument of "approve" or "ratify" is one of semantics, not of substance.

I agree. But then why did you make a big deal about it by saying this?:
