something I haven't heard anyone consider is the new rest rules. Is it even possible for a reserve guy to get ALV+15 with an extra day off per month with the new rest rules in effect?

Negative Ghost Rider. You can't yellow slip on your days off. If line holders won't don't know the reserve game would educate themselves on how it worked they might be in for a real eye opener !!
Yes, you can! I-crew-> Schedules->PCS->Slip Requests->Select Preference Qualifiers To Be First For Flying on X days. Please educate yourself before you try to educate others. |

I've YSed on an X day several times. Good trip in the pot on my last X day, nasty one that I figure they'll assign me on my first on call day. Also done it if I'm close to filling up by the middle of the month. There's no extra pay for high slipping on your X day, if that's what you mean. |
Something to consider too,
All the "mainline growth" they are talking about is not big wide bodies its the SMALLEST paying aircraft. So yes we may be getting MORE mainline planes but they are the lowest paying. The more I read this stuff the more pessimistic I get. WOW |
We may be getting our panties in a wad prematurely on the reserve increases.
If reserves get pay and credit same as line holders, would the new numbers be a wash? Or perhaps even in our favor? Like it's been pointed out, most of the time I've spent on reserve (lots) I would have benefited more from a training day pay increase for getting my landing currency in the sim than negatively by this bump in "full". |
Did I miss the statement limiting 70/76 seat aircraft to 255 (status quo) or less?

Not sure, but I called my Rep and he said rest rules and other parts of the TA not yet completed will more than offset any negative staffing effects. I'll wait and judge the TA in it's entirety. For a pilot who spends a lot of time on reserve this is huge win provided there is negative staffing impact.
According to management, no staffing increase will be driven by the rest rules. |

Your Rep might be mistaken. The Network and Crew Resource Planner were at the 2/14 Crew Room Brief. They stated the rest rules would have the effect of adding 1% to the pilot seniority list. If they added in current margins for contingencies, they got back to a net wash.
According to management, no staffing increase will be driven by the rest rules. There was a qualifier to that too. They were just looking at the rest rules and not layering them in with any PWA restrictions. They plan on dealing with many of the duty and flight time limit issues via reroute. It shuffles the deck and keeps staffing neutral. For that reason, reserves need trip guarantee once assigned, and there needs to be penalties for reroutes that have a pilot released any later than schedule sign out. If those two things are not part of this agreement, yes, the ft/dt chances will be effectively net neutral to a slight loss. |

And we should see the entire contract. On the surface, however I wouldn't want to be assigned up to 99 hours in the summer, without concurrence. Furthermore, I might be OK w/ ALV + 7:30, so a Reserve could be assigned up to the upper limit of LCW, but why have Reserves go to 7:30 above that, 7:30 more than a regular? And in what context should allow ALV/TLV to flex up another 1:00? The answer needs to be that we will all see much higher daily credit, so that we can be as productive as the company needs, without ruining our health or privat lives. |
