No you don't get it, Scope is not a contract item; You can't strike over it. I doubt you would show up to work tomorrow if DCI started receiving 777s/747s/767s, etc. Why do you show up if there are CRJs being flown by DCI? I admit I'm guilty of contributing to the slide by working at Pinnacle, but I never took any of your flying that wasn't given. If mainline pilots truly wanted CRJs back on the mainline, management would put them back there, no contract negotiations necessary. However, I've got bad news for you, they don't.

A contract item as defined by the NMB, is pay, work rules, filing of vacancies etc. Scope is not one of them, it's simply who is to be covered by that agreement. You can't strike over 76 jet flying at DCI, once you give it up, it's gone. The only way to put it back is to get management to volunteer it back. How do you plan to do that? Voting NO repeatedly on a contract isn't going to do that.

That is still possibly a step in the wrong direction. A 100% NO vote, no matter how good the first TA is, is what's needed to start taking steps in the right direction.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Your first statement implies Delta pilots couldn't strike if their scope was violated. Your second statement implies no violation of scope. Add to it, you contradict yourself by posting the highlighted statements.
So I'm confused. Is a NO vote the first step, or is it not? |
Bid Plan
OK...I know this is off the current thread path, but the July bid closes soon and I'm looking for some help. I'm middle seniority in my seat. I have a week vacation in June and live in base. Can anyone help me with a bid plan that maximizes time off and pay with vacation?
If I bid a line, what would a max, norm or min credit bid do for/to me? Would it be better to bid reserve and hope for some rolling thunder? If so, what would be the best way to bid days off to facilitate the thunder? I just don't have a good feel for how vacation affects the bid. Thanks...ExAF |

Thanks...ExAF One week is 21 hrs of pay and credit to the LCW (ALV +/- 7.5 hrs), but after the LOT's are posted you can pick up to ALV+15. As a reserve, a week of vacation is 21 hrs and four extra days off. Not exactly sure waht you are looking for. Depending on your category, Rolling Thunder may not happen. Many are still overstaffed. |

I wasn't supposed to read it that way? How could it be read any other way? You tried to make it look like the pilots of Delta are in a complete no-win situation and will just have to accept our fate. Here's your post again for your review (emphasis mine):
If you didn't mean that to sound like some cubicle manager trying to deflate and defeat this pilot group before the TA even comes out, then you should edit it. Carl |

A 100% no vote is a show of unity, repeated no votes at 51% show a divided group. A unified group is able to negotiate a better contract.

His point is that we can force them back to the table. This is my third full Section 6. The first one was approved for MEMRAT by the MEC and sent to the pilots. The pilots turned it down and sent it back to the MEC and the company. A survey came out ranking the top five items that needed improving and by what level. After that survey was completed, the ensuing talks took no time at all and the deal was done very quickly. The result was a pass rate well above 70%. As for what Mesaba is saying, he is saying until this pilot group forgoes small raises and votes as one large block on a single item like scope, recapture is impossible. I agree with that, and the reality is people look at the whole deal, ask the Mr or Mrs, and then vote what is best for their family. |
