Kind of the point I made before. ANYBODY (for the most part) can be trained to fly. It's almost impossible to un-train somebody from being a DB/A-hole.
Besides, for the airlines that DO use a sim profile (especially the SAME sim) sometimes it's not really a good test of flying skill. Just like some DBs/A-holes can put on the 45 minute show in a face to face, almost anybody can go to the sim prep, spend the money, get the EXACT profile and go a good (enough) job.
Pre 9-11 the prep/gouge was out there for the basement UAL AST (or Frasca?) sim, in the 2005-2008 era at CAL, the prep/gouge was out there for the CAL sim, etc.

Delta is projecting an additional 100M in expenses in 2014 due to Obamacare.
I wouldn't anticipate that being an issue with DL hiring unless it throws the rest of the economy into a lag. It would have to be a serious lag, too... with the exchange of 717s for RJ lift, the international focus, plus retirements, it would take something crazy to slow hiring down.
