They said they will start classes in jan to staff for summer, then take a break in hiring over the summer, then start it up again indefinitely.

The rumors seem to range from nearly 500 next year on the high side, to 120 on the low side. The answer is usually somewhere in the middle.

The DTW council newsletter mentioned 60 per month until the summer, then reducing/stopping for the summer (thus the high side number.) One would think they got this number from Crew Resources, but sometimes things get lost in translation.

Obviously things can change. If we get more airplanes, or things get tight this summer, (we are very thin in a number of categories, IMHO,) the numbers will likely go up. If we decide we need to reduce capacity (again) due to the economy or whatever, the number goes down, (or hiring gets pushed back – again.)

I thought there was only an interview requirement - are there a certain number that need to be actually hired as well?

Compass is guaranteed jobs, a real flow through. Everyone at Compass hired prior to the Aug 2010 sell-off date to TSA Holdings, will get a job at Delta. This was from when Compass was NWA and there was a NWA flow. Delta kept it.

Here's the info:

FLOW UP/DOWN agreement:

**Flow Up

Flow up to Delta will be offered to all Compass pilots through a date of hire of 08/19/2010 (409 pilots); No Compass pilots hired later will flow up.

Delta will offer employment to an eligible Compass pilot before any other pilot candidate for hire in seniority order.

To be eligible, a Compass pilot must: (1) be a Captain; and (2) have at least 30 months on payroll.

Unless waived by Delta & Compass, the max number of Compass pilots flowing up to Delta will be the lesser of: (1) 25% of total Compass pilots in any rolling 12-months, or (2) 20 per month.

A Compass pilot who fails initial training at Delta may return to Compass at his previous seniority and longevity.

**Flow Down

Even after the flow up has ended, a furloughed Delta pilot will have the right to flow down to a pilot position at Compass, and will be senior to all Compass pilots with one exception: No more than 10% of the positions at Compass are “protected rights” for pilots who do not wish to flow up. To be a protected rights Compass pilot, the actual offer to flow up must be permanently forfeit. Only protected rights pilots cannot be bumped and will be senior to all furloughed Delta pilots. The remaining 90% of the positions at Compass are reserved for furloughed Delta pilots.

You're probably confusing Compass for Pinnacle. Pinnacle got the SSP, which is an interview. Nothing is guaranteed job-wise, but apparently there are minimum quotas of Pinnacle guys that should be in newhire classes per month. But realistically speaking, Delta is going to hire with quality. Considering this SSP deal was formed behind DALPA's back, I don't see DALPA pilots bending over to help on any hiring issues. For example, suppose in a month they interview and then like and hire only 11 candidates. It may not be 12 as required, so what's Pinnacle going to do? File a grievance? Rock the boat? Delta holds Pinnacle at this point, and they are in complete control of what happens.

Compass has a much better deal for all their guys hired prior to Aug 2010. They will be at Delta soon.

^^^ ah, thanks! Yeah, I was thinking of Pinnacle. I can't keep the various regionals straight.

Well crap - sounds like I'll be waiting around awhile. I bet it'll take some time to get through 409 pilots.

CPZ can only flow 1/4 of their list a year. Plenty of slots will be available.

61 flowed in 2010. Also about 38+ have left compass for different places or have bypassed the flow.
About 310 pilots still have flow up rights

Hopefully 120 pilots turns out to be well on the low side. Fingers crossed! One way or the other, it'll be nice just to see some movement at Delta.
