Or they could really put them on the hot seat. Like question their motivation for wanting to work at Delta. Especially or the senior side, I think it would be legitimate to ask why didn't you apply to Delta in 1998? 2006/7? 2010? The point with these tough questions is it gets you defensive. When put in a corner, some pilots react bad. 45 minutes of the right kind of questions, you should be able to weed the problem pilots.

And a no college degree should be a no starter. Either require it for everyone, or require it for no one.

Hahaa that's a no! One guy in my interview group said his answer was that he would hire everyone. They pushed it again, but he said he couldn't refuse them, he'd hire everyone. That's another no-no!

Kinda depends on the interviewer's take and style on the whole thing.

The answer could ALSO mean that the candidate is very humble, realizes they're just lucky to be there in the chair talking to them about possibly being hired, won't say ANYTHING negative about the other people, doesn't think they're "too good" and their feces doesn't have too foul and odor, etc etc etc.......

Sometimes it's NOT about what was said, but how it was said and the associated personality test that goes into the whole airline pilot interview theatre game.

Interviews can be A LOT like a checkride, it's over in the FIRST 5 minutes. The other 40-55 minutes can just be the HR/interviewer/line pilots validating what happened in that first 5 minutes.

Big Ed is not only a scam but one of the most toxic, devistating and unsustainable debt bubbles brewing on the horizon today. Most degrees for most people aren't worth nearly what they cost and a great many of them are worthless even if they were free. 6 figures for a public library reading list with a side guarantee of little to no job experience and an added bonus of a 4 year time capsule preservation of the high school mentality/maturity plus alcohol and pre-aprooved credit card offers.

College used to be where people went who had a plan. Now its the place to go when you don't have a plan. And an entitlement no less!

Of course there are some degrees for some people that will truly pay off. Some fields that still have a solid ROI. The ranks of companies auto-preffing degrees will probably shrink and airlines will likely be among those. Keep in mind though that, for a while, even at airlines where degrees aren't required, that doesn't mean it won't at least help a little to have one, and you have one anyway regardless. Kind of like TPIC. Very few airlines require it, and they all hire some pilots with little to none of it, but it always helps to have some.

Personally I feel an answer like that is a cop out, a canned humble answer. And that's how the interviewers felt, because they asked him again and tried for him to get a real answer. He wasn't hired (not for this question, he had screwed up big time in the group interview).
