My understanding is that United has 200+ in their pool and no invites going out until April so Delta's not the only place with a large pool established. I'd say that the pool is better than the waiting line to get in.

We were told that Delta eliminated physical exam (nobody explained why). Just psych interview (which is now done in house at pilot selection office) and urinalysis which has to be done within 48 hours either in Atlanta on day 2 (short cab ride) or at location near your home.

My timeline:
Received an email telling me that I need to change my application in order to "receive employment consideration" (I had to say I was willing to relocate). I received that email on Nov 5th. I received my interview invitation on December 10th for a February interview. If you are getting the "fix-it" email, that is a very good sign. I know another guy who got a similar email, followed up in a few weeks by an invitation.

I interviewed 8 months before my availability so it seems Delta is willing to consider everything from immediate availability to much later than that.

For me invite came 7 months out and know of others >10 months--all military that I know specifically. HR confirmed date on application during interview but I didn't have to provide any proof (AF separation/retirement paperwork).
